Could anyone recommend a good cleaning service? We're putting our house on the market, and my housekeeping prowess isn't equal to the task of keeping the place in showing condition. Thanks.

Noticed your house up for sale Mr. and Mrs. Slums. Good luck. Are you staying in Glen Ellyn?

Thanks to the person that recommended Sweet Pea's in Lombard for a cleaning service. I've never had to use a cleaning service, but finally relented this week after too many weekends spent at the house in Michigan.

First off, Shelly (the owner) is just super professional. She really took the time to explain her service and what they would do.

I opted for the 'spring cleaning' service, which included washing all the woodwork, vacuuming the furniture, etc... She sent 4 people that were in my house for 4 hours. This was $120 bucks...quite a bargain. When I arrived home yesterday, I could not find ONE thing wrong (and I'm super picky about a clean house). They even cleaned that gunk that builds up where the lid closes on the washing machine and power cleaned my laundry tub!

She explained to me that she does no advertising and receives her clients only by word-of-mouth advertising. She cleans over 1700 homes in the west suburbs and has not raised her rates in 17 years, because she doesn't have the overhead of advertising.

So, if you need good, reasonable house cleaning, give her a call. I think I may even ask them to do bi-weekly cleaning after my initial experience.

We've been using Sweet Peas for about a year. Shelly sent over two very sweet women that we really liked and trusted in our home. They were with us the whole time, then, two weeks ago in tears, they told us they were going back to Poland - Shelly had threatened them and accused them of trying to steal her clients and start their own business. They had never approached us about leaving Shelly. They told us that Shelly would call on our next scheduled cleaning to say they had a family emergency and were no longer going to work in our home. They also said Shelly was withholding their pay until they called from Poland. Sure enough, two new women showed up on our scheduled day handing my husband their cell phone with Shelly on it. Shelly said we we're getting someone new because our previous women had a "family emergency."

Of course, there are always two sides to every story and we don't have time to get involved in a cleaning service drama, but I do feel uncomfortable supporting a business that might have questionable business ethics and someone who doesn't treat her employees well. If I get a recommendation for another service, I will switch.

I have had a lot of experiences with cleaning services. My advice is: When in doubt, get out!

If I can just interject for a brief moment. The cleaning person I have, my "man-maid" as I so lovingly call him, cleans for me and my store, as well as a handful other businesses in the downtown district. For example, I have hard wood floors at home from the 20's and all european antique furniture. He polishes the floors by hand, makes my bed(I intentionally leave it undone when I know he is coming..kind of like treat, one less thing I have to do. The simple things in life I tell you Smile)My bathtub looks brand new when he is done, kitchen floor I could eat off. Three to four hours of DEEP cleaning for about 150.00. I mean to have all the furniture polished, the dining room table chairs, the couch sides, the coffe table. If you saw my furniture you would understand why. So if anyone is interested let me know, I will give you his contact info. and references from people in town. =)
Ciao

You may not allow me in your presence...I'm currently using Victoria Principle's skin care line, purchased via INFOMERCIAL (yes, our mail-lady does give me some strange looks when she hands it to me)

When you are out of your current V.P skin care line. Come in and address to me your skin care concerns and I will be more than happy to explain and more importantly show you the difference. When and if you decide to come in, please bring you current skin care regime. I will explain to you the biggest gimmick in skin care as far as their selling technique. I do not do gimmicks. I do results. One question about the skin care line you are currently using, Do you HONESTLY see results? I have women ask me if there is trick lighting in here after I do the application of the skinc care. Smile Plus, sign up under the GUEST LIST on the website and you receive a twenty five dollar gift card for you birthday! FABULOUS!

xoxo,
Michael

Glad you explained that. It looked to me like a golf club hitting a smiley golf ball. I thought Fan (Chancel) would be jealous he didn't use it first.
