My mother-in-law is looking for the least expensive option for having a pair of 70 ft cottonwood trees removed from her back yard. Does anyone have a recommendation as far as tree removal services or free-lancers. I don't think the person would have to be especially skillful since the trees are fairly far from anything they could damage. Merely competent should suffice.

Also, I'm looking for a source for some good quality top soil. Has anyone dealt with a supplier that they were satisfied with?

I have used Al Gaimari of Al's Tree Service since we have lived in GE. My mother recommended him.

He is an arborist and will not just slice and dice. But, if you do want to get rid of some trees, he is by far the least expensive out there. One caveat...only pay him a deposit until the job is done. Al is the most honest guy you'll ever meet. But he tends to start a job and finish on his schedule. The less money he gets upfront, the more he is likely to work on your schedule rather than his own

The low cost option would be to set these puppies on fire...surely anyone would be capable of doing that...

It's the spending, Stupid!

Thanks for the recommendation Clam. I think I'm going to go with Dan's suggestion though. I think any tree removal service would have trouble competing with the price efficiency of a dozen gallons of unleaded.

Can you really burn down 70 foot tall cottonwoods? That's something I might like to watch.

How are you going to explain to the fire dept about how you accidently spilled gasoline on three trees?
