I started at Butterfield in 1974...Sonny was the caddymaster and Serge ran the Locker Room. I still go to their block party every summer. It is the Friday night of the Invitational. Pays to have rich friends/boss. I think Serge is still there. Sonny must certainly have passed on by now.

Worked as a busboy at the Ribbery about the same time...1974ish. Only did that for about 8 months. Worked at the GR from 78-79. Most twisted group of people I've had the pleasure of working with. Restaurant people are truly odd...especially behind the scenes. Also used to deliver pizzas in HS...at a place on North Avenue called Tak-Home Pizza. It's gone now...those were reeeeeeally interesting people.

Where is your office? Must be near Ovaltine if it is on Villa. I own a house in Villa Park just off of Villa near the RR tracks.

The Butterfield caddy thing is very popular with my son and his friends...if your good, you could rake in quite alot of dough in one summer. One of the kids earned $5000.00 over this past summer.

Clam, Right in front of Ovaltine. The old Bank building. My parents still live on Villa about a block off Roosevelt. I used to cut Sonny's Lawn. He had a really nice mower, looked vaguely familiar to others I had seen somewhere. Roll Eyes

You won the invite? When did you win it and how much did you bank?

For those not in the know, winning the Butterfield Invitational is a big deal.

Back to the original post: Go to Florae as Michael is the best! Remember it only costs a little more to go first class. Florae also has buckets of flowers for you to create your own if you don't want to avail yourself of Michael's outstanding designs.

Michael from Florae did the flowers at a baby shower that I cooked for yesterday. I was amazed at the positive reaction from nearly all of the 20+ women that were there. Whenever I am at one of these functions, the flowers typically hide in the background and add a little color. These arrangements (there were three on the table set for....20) were simply incredible. And yes, I say that as a straight man that just happens to know how to cook.

His stuff is far and away the best I have seen in the western suburbs. The competition in town can't really be mentioned in the same breath. I understand that he is more expensive, hence...you get what you pay for.

If I want what I consider "junk" flowers just to brighten the place up on a gloomy February afternoon, Trader Joe's of all places has some pretty decent bouquets for $12-14. That certainly has to be less than any of the other florists in town...and they actually look pretty nice.

I walked past the place on Forest this morning on the way back from Starbucks. Looked at the window....crossed the street and looked at the place from the sidewalk...with the way they maintain that store, they are almost begging people not to come in...let alone take the time to look them up in the Yellow Pages. Take a look today for yourselves if'n you're intown and tell me if I am being too harsh. I have a habit of being so.
