Any recommendations for good, honest carpet sellers and installation? Thanks to puppy wear and tear, we are in dire need for new carpet. Nothing high end, but don't want cheap either.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Scrap the carpet! Refinish the hardwood!

I just had the carpet in our bedroom, closet and stairs replaced by Karmis. I went in wanting to buy something mid-priced, but my wife came along and convinced me to spend 40% more than I wanted to.

Anyway, I have spoken to thousands of Karmis customers, and I will say this, if they **** something up...they will fix it. When we bought our house they installed the wrong color...realized they did after we spoke...zero questions asked...fixed the mistake. I have heard that from others, also.

They carry less expensive stuff as well.

I will say...the installers scared the **** out of me...and I am a former Marine and Super Max prisoner. Didn't want to leave the wife and kids there while they were installing. Turned out they were pretty cool. Nothing was missing.

That's what I thought (I don't mean that in a bad way). Hope your nephews return home safely!

We just had the whole upstairs and the stairwell carpet replaced when we moved in in Feb. We used Empire (before all of you start):

They have three diffferent price levels of carpeting, the sales person came out the next day with samples of each and color swatches. When my wife picked the one she wanted, they scheduled the install on the spot (2 days later). The installers were very quick and nice, removing all the old carpet and padding. The carpet looks and feels great and we do not have to pay until 2056 (or something like that).

We have a dog that puts a lot of wear on our carpets as well. We used Empire at the old house once before and it stood up the mutt just fine.

Shockingly, I agree with GEM Wink. Go back to the hardwood or put veneer over the old. Then, buy a nice area rug. It can take the wear and tear much better.

Unless you have a specific reason not to - try to support your local merchants.

We have had success with Karmis as well. And they came out and checked a problem I had, though the issue was in the subfloor, not with their product or installation. I have also asked them to match another store's price and they did. Smile

We looked at DeSitter, Empire and Home Depot. Home Depot won. Same variety, but a much better deal on pricing, plus we had one of their 10% off coupons and put it on the home depot card...no payments for one year! We recommended them to our friends in Aurora and they were pleased as well.

Best Carpets

and there is another one, I forgot the ones who did my work but they were terrific. I can find out. Did our carpets-twice. Just had the office done and then, bam, major water main in the town broke, or basically collapsed and we're at the bottom of the hill and we filled up. Needless to say, we now have new carpet -again.

I'm with GEMom...go with Karmis, and not just because they are local, they do good work. We used Home Depot one time only. I went down to our basement to inspect their installers and saw that they were putting in a totally wrong color. It took another 3 weeks to get the right stuff put in.

If you dont use someone from GE I would recommend Steve from SAVO Carpets. He is from Wheaton and his family has had roots in DuPage County for years.
He knows more about carpet than anyone I have ever met and is the best installer I have ever used. 630-235-2323

I am a big fan of hardwood floors as they are so easy to maintain. We have had them in three houses, with kids, dogs, parties, etc. and never had one problem. We use City and Suburban to sand and poly. They also install. We used another firm in another house and had to have City and Suburban a couple years later to come in and do it right!

Sorry, I can't recommend anyone because we did our own and we're not for hire. Big Grin It was a lot of work but well worth it.
