OH - you mean the "man's work" comment? Well, I already do all the "woman's work" and some of the "man's work" too so I don't feel too guilty saying it! Big Grin

Besides, my husband treads on my territory when it comes to things like choosing paint colors and other decorating...he likes to throw out the "woman's work" thing but won't concede that decorating is indeed "woman's work"...just dishes, laundry, sweeping, vaccuuming, helping the kids with their homework...etc.

I'm sure if he were home when I decided to call a repairman, he would have had something to say about it but he wasn't here and now everything works! Smile

I do the vast majority of things around the house that would have been considered "woman's" work a couple of decades back. I grew up in a single-father household and learned a lot from my dad with regard to shopping, cooking, decorating, house maintainence, etc. I do all of the grocery shopping, cooking, buy all kids clothes/shoes, pay the bills, majority of the maintainence of the house/cars, majority of helping with homework, all chauffering of children basketball/soccer practices, karate classes/pvt. lessons...in Palatine, cut the grass...twice a week because I like to cut the grass, all preperation and cooking of meals when entertaining...etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.

Why? Because I get home 1.5-2 hours prior to my wife. And...I have the time at work to do many personal tasks...either online or on the phone.

I also have a background in more "gentle" things such as a number of years at Mark Shale and I have worked in several kitchens including a high-end (at the time) French restaurant. My dad did a lot to form my desire to spend time in the kitchen (although after this many years...I'm kind of getting burned out...plus, if it won't run away off the plate, I'll eat it...my kids won't eat anything and that is frustrating).

So...even though I made a tremendous faux pas with regards to somebody's husband fixing the drier...in reality, I guess that I do the majority of the "woman's" work around our house.

So, no offense meant with regard to the gender-jumping comment.

No offense taken...you are a rare breed in our age bracket and older. I do see it alot more often in the generation X men. I have a younger brother who is a stay at home dad and it works great for them. I also have an older brother who couldn't pick up after himself if his life depended on it. He's married to a saint. We all grew up in the same house...go figure...we had the same parents who taught us everything we needed to know about keeping a house. With two adults who work (in or out of the home)and kids...you have to share the responsibilities.

P.S. My husband is 10 times better at decorating than I am. His father owned an interior design shop.

OK, will you tutor my highly-intelligent-and-handyman-oriented-but-not-very-good-at-pitching-in-around-the-house husband? I often say that I could really use a wife! Razz

And as for decorating, I just really like to do it. I don't want my husband to share his opinion because we don't often see eye to eye on these things...though we have become better at compromising! Sometimes I do little things without consulting him first and he usually likes the changes but if I asked him first, he would undoubtedly disagree. He's a little oppositional that way. Smile

I just had a boiler replaced by Al Kaplan Heating out of Elk Grove. They installed a 94% efficent Munchkin boiler. They were on the higher side on price but knew what they were doing and were able to get it in fast seeing I had no heat. Good guys

I agree with the previous recommendation for Armbrust in Wheaton. They did a great job on my sisters house here in GE. Price was better than the rest as well.

As for man's work/ woman's work - and decorating, I had always wished my husband would get more involved with the day to day decisions and maintenance around the house. When we moved into this house I hired someone to help us with interior design. My husband didn't like her recommendations and decided to make decorating his pet project! At first it was really cool but eventually I realized that I was better off when I could just go to JCPenney and buy the drapes myself.

I guess 'be careful what you wish for' applies. He is much better at electrical stuff and minor repairs than decorating. We finally got rid of the large fish he wanted to mount above our living room fireplace. It is now at his office. Thank goodness.

Well.....Ruydah is my project manager, so I'll have to give him final say. So, what say you, Ruydah? Heard of any of these? Heard of J R Heating & Air? Would you use them?
