Looking for someone to build and design a deck who does good work and understand the Glen Ellyn codes. Some of these guys charge like it's an addition so quality, price and reputation are key.
About 15 years ago we used Roger from Those Guys 293-1296. Deck is still in good shape. He is a perfectionist. It's a side job so his prices were good. I believe he has done a lot of work in GE over the last 20 years.
My brother-in-law is great at decks. A neighbor on Western had him build a deck for them...can't remember their screen name. If they are still on the BB, maybe they will vouch -or not- for my bro-in-law. He installed our fence and has built many a deck. His name is Erick and his cell is (630)779-0899. He may have references too.

If it's my brother-in-law, I won't take it personally so Gemsa, please feel free to respond. (Afterall, he is my brother in law, not my brother.

Gemsa, do respond. I just gave a friend a recommendation for Those Guys to do his basement. I will admit that I haven't had any work done in 10 years so things may have changed. I don't want to recommend someone if quality has shifted.
I asked my bro-in-law about how that one deck building project (on Western) went and according to him, those who hired him made changes as they went along and the price increased, which they were unhappy about. There were also delays from the village in getting the permit (he didn't do the design) and because the changes made by the homeowners required special orders of materials among other things. The deck is apparently beautiful as stated by my father-in-law and the village inspector. So, if it was my bro-in-law that the folks said they had a poor experience with, I would suggest that any problems were likely mostly out of his control. He has lots of other references for anyone who is still looking to build a deck. He has a new cell number though: 689-6868.

My neighbors had a poor experience with Amy's bro in law. Said they had changes because he did not follow the plans correctly and was continuously trying to do his own thing. Didn't order the supplies correctly and the deck took all summer to complete. That said, I think it looks great too.
