Hi, Amy!! We used Grant and Power for our paver patio and walls. Our designer was Ben Ubben and the crew sent did a great job. Several neighbors also used this company - one incorporating a fire pit area that looks very nice. Not the cheapest probably, but quality work.

Thanks! I actually called them already and they will be out later this week. Ben isn't with them anymore but they assured me that they have other good designers. I let them know you sent me so I think you'll be getting something for referring me to them. I'd like to make plans with a couple of others so, if anyone else sees this today, let me know. I want to move forward with this! Anyone have experience with Fuller Landscape Group here in GE?

Amy - If you are willing to risk the GEBB backlash for working with a Lombard company, they did an awesome job for my Mom. Call, PM or stop by if you want her name to reference. The owner lives in Glen Ellyn, so it's okay.

Country Scape Inc. 630-443-8121 Pete Fagan They are the best. Did our patio, retaining wall and rock wall. Many others in town as well. They do great work, fast and reasonably priced.

Amy -
Is your patio finished? Who did you go with and are you happy with them/it? I took a good look at our deck over the weekend and this is definitely the last season for it. I'm thinking paver patio to reduce maintenance.
Since you were replacing a deck, maybe you can answer a question I have. Our deck is three steps up from ground level and we have a door that goes directly out to the deck from the dining room. What do they do - build a patio to deck height or build stairs to the ground from the door and go from there?

Mamattorney - they can do it either way. Take a look at this linked photo. Per the photo, you can imagine the top tier against the house comprising the entire patio area, or the lower area could be bigger with simple steps up to the door. Kind of depends on your preference, yard, landscaping, etc.

Oh wow. That's nice. I wonder what something like that costs.

Make sure you plan, well in advance, the effects of flash flooding on a patio like this. Drainage and diversion is essential. If the rain is diverted down the driveway, make sure you invest in an anti-back up system for the floor drains. A friend on Spring built a beautiful house with a patio as beautiful as this. 3 floods later, they restructured all the drainage on the property. The first one blew out their basement windows.
