Need the name of a reputable appliance repairman
that doesn't cost an arm and a leg...(gas dryer not heating...checked vents and gas valve)that will come out in a reasonable amount of time. "When you don't know what you are talking about, it's hard to know when you are finished." |

How old is it?
Is it worth fixing, or time to get a new one? Spending $200 to fix what I think it is probably won't make economic sense. "If the cap fits, wear it." |

What do you think it is? ...It's about 5 years old...

I had the same problem a couple of years back. My guess is that it's the ignitor...which will cost about $35-$50....plus whatever somebody wants to charge you to put it in, and I can't imagine somebody will come out to do ANYTHING these days for less than $100.
These are pretty easy to put in if your husband knows what he is doing. Personally, I don't mess with gas unless it's putting it in the car. My dryer was 8 years old and I said "so long" to it. 5 year-old dryer...might be looking into getting it fixed. About the only thing that can break on them is the ignitor. If it's a high-end dryer...I'd probably get it fixed. If it's a cheapy...cut your losses. "If the cap fits, wear it." |

Does Youngs in town do repairs? If not, maybe they can recommend someone. Or maybe the hardware store (they sell appliances).

Oops. Sorry.
When it comes to screwing around with natural gas appliances...betterleft to the pros, IMO. Looks like you'll be getting a new dryer!! "If the cap fits, wear it." |

Q. My gas dryer turns around but will not get hot or warm; could the pilot light be out and can I do this myself?
A. Dryers less than 25 years old do not have pilots. They have hot surface glowing ignitors (HSI). Check the HSI. Hot surface glow ignitor located in the burner compartment. If the ignitor does not glow it's burned out and must be replaced. If the ignitors color is orange without much yellow color in it, it's weak. Needs to be replaced for the burner to turn on. If the burner does turn on but only for a short time period, the venting system is clogged with lint or the flapper valve in the exhaust hood is not opening, etc. Kindly include more details and specific info to allow a better determination what the problem may be. not much info here to go on. http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dryer/gdryer/check/ignitor.php Now, as Dinsdale will tell you M2C...fix it yourself. "If the cap fits, wear it." |

At least a chipmunk didn't crawl through the vent and get down below the dryer drum where he:
a.couldn't get out, b.tried to chew through the fan, and c.died! "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

My gas dryer had a similar no heat problem a month or so ago...I found these pages usefull in figuring out what was wrong:
http://www.applianceaid.com/faq-dryer.html#gasheat Unfortunately my wife was not as patient as I and went ahead and called the repair man. 30 minutes and $135 later he replaced the $12 thermal fuse... |
