We are trying to get rid of a alot of 'yard waste' which is essentially a large quantity of pebbles (from previous owners).
Phoning the GE village only gives the advice of contacting the waste disposal services. They do have a dump site - but you have to pay for 2 tonnes at a minimum. (I know we can get a dumpster in our driveway - but it would be pricey)
Is there anywhere else we can go?
Or how have others solved this problem in the past?

How many pebbles are we talking? I have a pile of large rocks in my backyard. Every week, one or two goes in the trash can. Another couple of months, and they'll all be gone.
i spent two weekends digging probably two tons of large field stones from a corner of my backyard (must have been the previous land-owner's, farmer saunders, dumping ground). after tossing the last freakin' one into a dumpster my wise-cracking neighbor says, "you know, some people will actually pay you for those things." (btw, he said the same thing after i nearly broke my back eliminating the tiger lilly infestation too)
maybe a $5 ad in the GE Sun or GE News suggesting "you haul it, it's yours" is your solution.
Dumpsters come in different sizes, there is always a coupon around somewhere, but you gotta watch it. You cannot load to the top concrete or stone. I believe it can only be 1/2 full.
We have a lot of garbage cans (I think 8) that you can put 50lbs worth into each one and put a sticker on them. I'm willing to loan out my cans.....let me know via BB if you want to do this and I will figure out a way you can reach me.

eight cans? are you collecting them or do/did you need that many? where do you store them?
Our house is old and we've done many construction projects. We stack them and they sit behind the house, wedged among a tree, shrubs, and the house. I really will loan them as long as I get them back right away.

Will the garbage guys/village really accept one sticker on each as long as its under 65 pounds (or whatever the limit is)? {I'm still trying to work out what the rules are}
Yes. They will - as long as everything is IN the container and under the weight limit. Believe me, I have LOTS of experience with this garbage thing.
I forgot to mention that we also use the cans for yard waste - including leaves so we don't have to keep buying those dammmmmnnnned paper bags.

haven't bagged or canned leaves in 15 years. i mulch 'em, sweep 'em with a yard sweeper (ever use one, they're great), compost 'em, then till the compost into the veggie garden in the spring.

'course i wish i could just hire out the work to a landscaper like most of my neighbors. i'm the only shmuck out there actually working in the yard.
I don't can or bag them anymore either. Jose takes care of it for us and I have to say - it's a bargain. I wouldn't do it if it weren't. People who know me, know I can be generous but I can also be extremely cheap! I don't know what Jose does with my yard waste but I will live in the ideal world in my head and assume that he composts.

I am one of the few people that enjoys cutting the grass, raking leaves and shoveling snow. It's what gets me outside without the frustration and expense of making my golf game decent.
