I was 99.98% pleased with Spandikow Roofing...858-3730. They have been around forever and Mark Spandikow is a very nice man.

The .02% deduction was for their trucks dripping oil on my concrete driveway.

3 people on our block have used them. for a total of 299.98% satisfaction.

Thanks, Clammy. Were they reasonable? Do you remember what they charged you? I know it varies based on sq ft, style of house, etc. We have ~1300+ sq ft. ranch.

My roof wasn't typical....cost over $9K. Which is slightly less than the house is worth.

Since I know I am not moving until 2017 when the youngest is out of GW, I did a lot of expensive stuff...including a poopload of copper work. That also included some gutters. If it's a complete tear-off, I'll bet your looking at about $5K or so. Add another 15-20 % if you have a detatched garage.

He'll come out and give you an estimate.

Another place I was impressed with was Feze Roofing out of Elmhurst. Bid was about the same, but I went with Spandikow because it seemed that hundreds of my friends recommended him. Local guy, too. Lives on Elm. I would avoid Tuscher Roofing...simply my opinion from past experience.

Thanks, Clam. I appreciate it. We're not doing anything fancy schmancy like copper. As an ex-homeless person, I am happy with just a plain ol' shingle roof. Maybe even thatch. Big Grin

I only used copper for the flashing, and...as Fish is well aware, I have a 4 foot by 15 foot flat section of roof outside the boy's rooms. So, it was either use copper or galvinized steel. It wasn't a hard decision to pay up for the copper as the steel would have looked like @ss.

Fine choice on the copper Clam. Spandikow is great......if you can find him. Returning calls is not his specialty.

What part of "no" don't you understand?

He always returned calls at night from whatI recall. I hate talking to people that I have to eventually write checks to anyway...

I'll say this. His crew knew what they were doing. They found a rotted area on the flat section and brought it to my attention...and added $200 to the bill. But they fixed it up like new.

If it weren't for those Leave It To Beaver-era trucks leaking a quart of oil on my driveway, I'd say it was the best contractor experience I've ever had.

I had the same truck leave the oil spot on my driveway too. It irritates me every time I see it....If I had a brick driveway, I might not have been as happy with the roofing job...

Great- looking forward to a fresh oil stain Big Grin

Now I can drive around the neighborhood and check out roofs on houses w/ oily driveways. Maybe it's his signature.

Spandy, definitely. I had him do ours also and it is not the typical roof. Had him tear the old, 3layers, and replace valleys, ridge vent, shingles etc. Everyone Iknow has been happy with his work.

span. does great work...but be warned...a total tear-off will leave alot of ****over EVERYTHING you've left up in the attic! so, plastic sheet over everything...good luck.

Would these guys also repair/replace damaged wood by our soffits and gables? We have some woodpecker damage and I'd like to get it repaired before the winter.

I love working with Spandikow, but they probably wouldn't touch that type of work without doing a roof also.

I used:

Alan Sudds Carpentry & Roofing
298 Hill Ave
Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
(630) 469-9142

for very similiar work that you are looking to have done. This was about 4-years ago, and at that time he was reasonable and got the work done within a reasonable amount of time.
