We have a drain leak in the basement, where the drain pipe meets (touches) the concrete floor. I've tried stuffing epoxy under it to no avail. Old house, cast iron pipe. It's a "small" job, but is going to take someone with talent and experience. Suggestions? TIA!

My family has used Dhamer for 30 years and the municipalities and private utilities that I have worked with hold them high on their list of recommended plumbers.

Ted ,is the pipe itself cracked where it goes through the floor ? Or is it the hub of the C.I. Pipe that is leaking ?

Arten...stop speaking in plumber lingo...is it that hard to spell Cast Iron?

Now I have to get back to researching the rule against perpetuities and springing executory interests.

The basement sink, the kitchen dishwasher and a few other things flow down and into a trap in the basement that touches the concrete floor. The trap is not the traditional "U" shape, but rather straight down, then across 90 degrees (for about a foot), then up 90d.

The "across for about a foot" part of the cast iron touches the concrete floor (which was poured after the pipe was laid). The leak (not a crack, per se) is where the bottom of the pipe meets the concrete. Underneath; not visible. Just the result of 80 years of rust and rot, I suspect.

It sounds like the Trap can be cut at the vert.pieces or the upper horiz. pieces and a new trap fabricated out of PVC. You connect it to the existing C.I. line with Fernco[brand name] Couplings or Hubless C.I. Couplings. Either slide on to connect the PVC to the C.I and you just tighten the S.S. bands on them. You can get all of this at Home Depot or even Ace . HTH.

Well... yeah... I don't disagree... but frankly, my days as mister home handyman have pretty much come-and-gone. My skills now are more limited to pointing at defective things and writing checks.

Arten will fix it for you. Just e-mail him your address. He came over to my house, picked up my manwagon and snow tires...installed them and brought the car back. He is just like that...loves doing stuff for people.

You've got a point Fan....I think the Artens (who apparently enjoy the company of children as it reminds them of years past [per the Firkins thread]) owe the Fans a free night weekend of babysitting. Hurry before they leave town forever.

Thanks, Everybody!

We went with JR... nice work, fair price, clean as a whistle when he left. One more satisfied customer!

Doesn't he look exactly like Bruce Willis? I know he did some stunt work for him in a few of his films.

I'm sure it would be easier and much more enjoyable watching the little Fans than Big Fan and Fish.
Especially at Firkins ! Wink
