My friend installed gutter guard to his newly built house. The house was built after careful planning and thought but most of the visitors felt that the gutter guard spoiled the aesthetic value of the house. This refrained me from installing gutter guard to my house. Can anyone suggest a better alternative?

How could Gutter guard spoil the aesthetics of a house?

Gutter guards do not eliminate the need for cleaning. They just stop a lot of the big stuff from finding a home. I agree with Pollux. Clean them twice a year . . . once in late spring, once in late fall. Should cost about $150 per year for most houses. That's about 12-15+ years worth of the gutter guard price. Again, even if installed, the gutters need maintenance. Gutter guards are a really cool scam.

I agree. If they really worked everyone would do them. For the cost you can higher someone to clean gutters and still be ahead of the game. We have a lot of helicopters in the spring. I watched my neighbors son repel over the back of the roof to pull the helicopters out of the screens. My personal favorite is watching another one of my neighbors stand on a roof with a leaf blower and lean over towards the gutter. We have a lot of fun in my neighborhood.

PS Nemo construction does gutter cleaning for real cheap. Most places wanted 120 or more to clean gutters on our 2 story house. He did them for $75.

Gutter Guards will eliminate the ability to easily clean your gutter guard gutters. Better to use conventional gutters. This Old House has been doing copper gutters with the round nylon brushes installed to keep the water flowing and the leaves out. The brushes can be easily removed, shaken out, and you're good to go for another year.

There are many poor reviews of gutter covering systems on pretty much all the major home improvement web sites.
