Don't know if this belongs here but I could really use the expertise of someone who actually knows something about in-ground basketball hoops. It's time to get one; it'll be the BIG gift. I dont' want to break the bank though. I found this one. Do any of you have input/suggestions? Is the 3.5" pole strong enough? Anyone have a lifetime hoop? I could really use some help here since neither I nor my husband are basketball buffs.

I have one. However, you have to go with the Mammoth.

This One - Lifetime Mammoth

This is one I have. I can tell you, I couldn't be happier with it. You could get every neighborhood kid and have them hand on the hoop and the thing wouldn't come down.

Feel free to stop by and check it out if you like.

I believe Big Daddy will be adding something here. He knows a thing or two about Hoop setups.

Santa bought a LifeTime 52" portable for the end of the block. $599.00 at Dick's marked down to $399.00....marked down to $229.00. Just happened to bump into it a day after my wife insisted I buy one for the little one. Seems like I was destined to have this particular model.

I don't think Destiny had anything to do with it.
I think Parker did though. Wink

I think you know that's a lie.

BTW, where did you get the backstop for yours...haven't been able to find one. And don't say Villa Bianca...because I'll know that's a lie, too.

My secretary got it for me. It's called a Roll-back. Maybe you can google it.

I don't think I can afford that one...you lawyers obviously make WAY too much money. Wink Seriously though, it's definitely too rich for our blood...we're paying back lots of debt, remember?

Clam, did you just buy that one? I think my husband said he saw it at Dick's. Do you think it's good quality. That's more in my price range. I know I am not going to get anything truly amazing in my price range but fairly solid would be nice.

Thanks for all the input thus far!

I think the one I got is solid as all get out. Right place, right time. If it breaks in 2 or 3 years...I'm not out a lot of money. Don't they are on sale any longer. For about $100 more than you are looking at you can pretty get a really nice portable. Assuming you don't run a Durango or Mini into it, it should last a while. The one you're looking at doesn't thrill me because the lift mechanism looks like cheese.

Fan will be more than happy to go to the store with you and will give you a hand in picking one out.

That's very generous of Fan! Smile

I don't want a portable though - I want to put one in-ground. I will have to go to Dick's and see what they've got...then try to find the same thing cheaper on-line.

I'm still up for suggestions though! Thanks again.

They have a number of in-ground BB goals. I'd definitely spend as much as I could for one you're gonna sink it into concrete. Pay up for one that has a chance of lasting longer. I'd say the $250-300 range will get you a nice one from what I've looked at.

Amy, I don't know how handy everyone at your house is but a piece of 2.5 in. galvanized pipe and a Backboard and Bracket kit will last forever.I finally cut mine down after 20+ years. You put it in 2 pieces and its not expensive.I can explain in detail if you're interested.

I was planning on buying a set-up with the bracket at the base of the post and then purchasing a separate mounting kit which is what gets "stuck in cement". Then, the whole post, backboard and hoop can be removed if/when needed or if we move. Now I am re-thinking and I'm running out of time! Confused

I've met that kid, Amy. No way does he believe in Santa!

I would cut a picture of a BB goal out of a magazine or print one off the internet, tape it to a brick or rock for weight, put it in a box and wrap it up. That way he knows he getting the hoop. It's not like you're going to install that thing on December 24th, is it? Plus...they might be cheaper after New Years. I wouldn't rush out and buy one if you don't know what you want. And I have no idea when Fan will have the time to go to the store with you as he is busy attending various farewell functions in his honor.

Just a thought.

I would get a picture of Fan and tape it to the brick with Fans address. While Fan is attending one of those farewell functions go over and borrow his.

Anyone presented with a picture of Fan on Christmas morning, especially a ten year-old boy, will suffer low self-esteem for years to come. Fan is that handsome.
