About three weeks ago a received a call from Schmidt Extoriors asking me if I would like to put one of their signs in my front yard for a few weeks in order to win a either a $100 or $500 gift of some sort. I asked them why I would whore my estate's front yard for a company that I have done business with and was completely dissatisfied with the way they stood behind their product...at which point I lost the phone connection somehow.

Anyway, I feel strongly that this campaign, where people lease out a portion of their front yard in order to have a chance at a minimal prize is pretty cheesy, not to mention yet another eyesore in a town that doesn't need any more.

Also makes me wonder if the village has any ordinance on the books regarding a company using advertising in this manner in a residential area.

Agree. It is even more cheezy than a vote YES or NO sign.

Equally tacky is when a contractor who is renovating a bathroom or building a new garage asks (or mandates) the placement of a sign in, on or near the house they're working at. Ask Epub how signage ordinances have bitten him lately, then to see all the contractor signage as I drive or walk around that apparently have no rules regarding them. Signs where they shouldn't be allowed are allowed. Signs where they are needed, not allowed. Something is very wrong with that.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe there are rules regarding campaign sign placement and take down.

It's just ballsy (perhaps smart) to convince people to place signs in their yards for the hope of payment when no work is actually being done. I just can't figure out what kind of goof lets them do it...and if it's one of yu goofs...my apologies for calling you a goof.

BTW, if you want to see the block in GE with the most for sale signs planted in the ground, go to MArion in between Western and Kenilworth. Must be about 50% of the homes for sale. I'm guess it's the neighbors to the east that are causing this.

Now that I know of this saturated sign locale, watch this space...

EDIT:
Meh. Was all set to get a picture of a dozen For Sale signs all lined up like soldiers. Clam is wrong. Not worth the effort to drive to Marion. There were only 7 for sale signs in three blocks. That's not "the block in GE with the most for sale signs planted in the ground" by any measure. Note to self: Do not always trust Clam.

Thanks for the info.
The other day I was wondering about the many folks who appeared to be having the same company doing windows for them...

I think that's part of the scam. Make it seem like you are doing work all over town. That and having your name all over the place. Must confuse people when the signs come down and the house looks just a shitty as it did when the sign went up.

Clam, what type of work did you have them do that you were unsatisfied with? We are looking to reside the house and get new windows and front door. If you used someone you liked, who was it?

Anyone else have any suggestions?
