Well, I'm sure that any design defects were beyond the control of the builder and couldn't be helped! Wink

I believe George Builders constructed or remodeled three homes on the north side of Hillside (between Taylor and Montclair).

Starting at Taylor and heading west.

730 - Large white house close to the sidewalk

722 - Sage colored house set back from the street with winding driveway (Clamato's favorite)

682 - Large beige colored tear down in the link above (now for sale for $2.5 Million)

Basement is bigger than most houses.

When the house costs this much, it is a lower level - a basement is what you get if you're paying under $500,000!!! Wink

Then what we have isn't a lower level or a basement. We have a cellar.

In regards to the huge stone house on Lorraine (north of $2MM), it was the subject of a little contravery after it was built because the height was taller than what code allows. If you look closely, the roof peek going north-south was cut off and made flat by about 2 feet. Now, aesthetically I'm not sure it matters, but the fact that whoever the builder and architect were got something like that wrong makes me wonder what else is faulty in the house.

That is what I had heard. My understanding is that he also built a mini-mansion for himself just to the west on the same side of the block.

Lots of fine old trees succumbed to the saw. Or so I heard from a long-time resident of that block.

What's the big deal? They're just trees. You watch, they'll plant some new ones exactly where they want them and in 50 years you'll never know the difference.

Yeah, why should it be up to us to work around the trees? It's our land after all. If they won't move on their own, I guess it is up to us to "relocate" them. It's all evolution...survival of the fittest.

Yep. I think you'll agree Ray Whalen has done a terrific job on the wooded lot he clearcut a couple of years ago on Highview just E of Park! Wink I hear the folks to the N of there just love the way their basements flood now.

In the case of Hillside, my understanding is that several trees involved were 100+ year old oaks. Nothing the likes of which our kids will be able to see in their lifetimes.

Cool. What do you think the odds are that whatever Whalen builds will be started and finished before the somewhat/partially/mostly completed C. George house behind it on Turner?

Of course, you never know what might come up that is beyond his control... Big Grin

I generally have a pretty high opinion of Whalen and his homes, but IMO his clearcutting of that property was inexcusable and should have been criminal.

Well, you have to admit that it was hard to see all of that spectacular lot with so many trees obstructing the view.

I'm still happy that they finally "clearcut" those 2 abandoned houses further east on Highview. Can't wait to see what goes in there. I hope it has a turret.

Well, the could easily have cut down all of the brush, while leaving the several larger quality trees. But that would have cost a couple of bucks.

Thanks to yet another builder. I've said before that I don't think it is right that developers are allowed to warehouse property with improperly maintained vacant homes on it. But others disagree. And the law is not on my side.

When those houses were still standing, I always marbelled at the evergrowing pile of papers, fliers, etc. It is one thing for folks to litter my driveway with unsolicited papers, circulars, and such. But exactly what is going on when someone sees a pile of decaying papers on the stoop of a clearly unoccupied house, and sees fit to add theirs to the pile? Roll Eyes

Those guys probably get paid by how many they deliver. At least that's what I tell myself when they see fit to hang the same stuff on both my front door and side door.
