The house on Montclair is what I was originally referring to. It was a beautiful home and four years priced in the mid- to high- $800's. I recall having interest, but George bought it within a few days of it going up for sale. Wouldn't be surprised if he paid above the offering. At any rate, to see it be exposed to the elements for so long is a travesty. I can only imagine how the neighbors feel. As for other customers who have had liens imposed against them, I was not aware of this. I have wondered about the quality of the workmanship, however. A home they put up on Main just had its front stairs re-built (house is only three years old) For a while, the rumor was that the massive brick home they built on Taylor (four levels) was literally sinking. Ouch. That house was originally offered at $1.7MM. More ouch. The row houses might might actually be tennaments?

It isn't a spoken quote. [/QUOTE] i thought we'd gone through this before as it applies to the comma and period inside quotes. quotation marks—The period and comma always go inside the quotation marks: He said, "I'm leaving." OR "I'm leaving," he said. The dash, semicolon, question mark and exclamation point go inside the quotation marks only when they apply to the quoted matter: He yelled, "Stop!" Can you believe he actually yelled "Stop"? where does your "spoken quote" theory from? |

Rule 1 Periods and commas always go inside quotation marks, even inside single quotes. Examples The sign changed from "Walk," to "Don't Walk," to "Walk" again within 30 seconds. She said, "Hurry up." She said, "He said, 'Hurry up.'" The source I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |

Absolutely, totally made up. And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for your meddling. Do you really think Fish would have caught on to that?
BTW, the way I used quotation marks was most likely improper. Has anyone pointed that out? What if I go back and fix that? Would that be OK? |

We did just go through this comma/quotation discussion. Commas go inside quotation mark, whether or not they are part of the quotation.
t.a. are the quotation marks used by Clam even needed since the quoted reference is included in its entirety in the same post? |

jumping from one meeting to another, so i don't have time to find the post you mention. let me say this: knowing clam like i do, it's probably wrong. yet he's charming and persuasive enough to make make you think he's correct. on that point, i'm in agreement with many posters here. he should definitely run for some political position. |

Well, it certainly is a source.
My understanding, however, was that this was more a matter of preference/convention, with British and American varieties, than a hard and fast rule. (Admittedly, Clam is an American presumably posting from his native shores, but this conversation is being held via the world wide web!) My understanding is that the punctuation-within-quotation rule is an artifact from the days of typesetting, reflecting concerns that no longer exist in word processing. I also readily admit that I'm pretty ignorant about many aspects of grammar/punctuation, and style. |

see what i mean? even when he is dead wrong, clam still has his supporters. maybe you should run for office, clam. btw, dinsey (i say that in an eric idle accent), AP and Chicago style are my two primary sources. i've not seen those sources suggest the comma inside quote rule is a "preference." but then again, i type in lower case only, so wtf do i know? in any case (no pun intended), who cares? we're all just writin' on a virtual BB, right? moreover, we sure don't want the GE BB to turn into that NWBurbs BB. sheesh, that place is frightening with all its arguments and accusations. |

Buggy - there was a mistake in your post. It's "Grammar Police to Serve and to be Correct!"
That's what we need in GE - more charismatic leadership! What was this thread about, anyway? |

I live a few doors down from this Project From Hell. I can assure you, none of us are very amused by it. Bums were living in it along with all sorts of vermin, and I'd bet one family of coyotes have also been occupants. For the most part, the P.F.H. is now shuttered. It still looks like sh*t. God help the person who takes it over. My guess is it will be another tear-down. No one in their right mind would buy it. Thanks C.G. |

On the topic of bums living in this guy's projects, let us not forget his involvement in one of our community's prouder moments of the last year ... And my neighborhood's 4-years-and-counting project had foxes living in it, not coyotes. |

not to mention the oaks he killed on hillside to build his own place (north side of street, two houses east of montclair). that stretch of road is one of my favorites in town. that lot in particular had maybe a dozen beautiful oaks (perhaps more). i would estimate that more than half had died and many of the rest are dying. it's a real crime.
