I just purchased a place and in my home inspection it was noted that there is some double tapping at the circuit breakers. Does anyone know a good person to call? I also need my fireplace looked at. It's electric - not sure if the person could look at this as well.

Thanks for the advice Nika. I live right by the library so I usually walk downtown. I will remember the information about Giesche lot if I get lazy, which has been known to happen! It is wonderful having so many different businesses nearby. I rented in the area for a year and fell in love with the area so I decide to buy. Unfortunately I am clueless when it comes to home repairs.
GEM - Thanks I will give them a call.

Thanks for the nice visual. I will have nightmares tonight! Sam didn't answer so hopefully I will hear from him soon before I have a fire.

It is Syracuse, just like the town in New York.

I've used him before, we were pleased with his work. Also, he lives a couple streets over from me...

I don't have his name here, but I had an electrician a couple of years ago that was recommended by the folks over at Young's appliance. He was great - followed up on my call very quickly, and told me what I needed done, and what could wait, and how to do it most cost-efficiently, while totally up to code and, even better, modern electrical best practices.

We have used Alternating Currents for new work and repairs. On Hill near I-355, local ownership. I think the phone is typically un-manned. You need to leave a message and they'll get back to you.

Surely you could add an additional breaker yourself it's pretty easy.

Open the panel, take out the breaker with the extra wires, remove extra wire, install extra wire on new breaker. reinstall old breaker and then reinstall new breaker. Done!

If Nika can fix a toilet, then anything can happen!

I'd do it for you, but I'm going to a Bulls Game. Eek

What happens if the circuits are double-tapped because there was no room for new breakers at the Old Panel Inn?

Two options:

Remove one of the standard breakers and install a "double" or Slimline breaker. It is actually two breakers in one, with the profile of a standard breaker.

Option two: Add a "sub" panel adjacent to the main panel.

The slimline breakers are on the right side of the photo one is not marked, the other says family room. The big ones at the bottom are 220V.

You'll probably spend most of the night fixing the toilet. I doubt that repair is gonna survive the abuse.

Sam told me my solution is more involved. Something to do with the neutral wire and not overloading it.

In other words, Call Sam so you don't burn the place down.

Thanks for the help! Sam came out last week and fixed all of my issues. I will definitely call him again. My fireplace works, and I don't have to worry about a fire. Smile
