Does anyone know Glen Ellyn's guidelines for raising chickens? I'm sure you couldn't have roosters, and probably need some kind of license? Thanks so much!

Andrew

Chickens! I've been trying to convince the wife for awhile on this- even have a neighbor who would share responsibility. Real eggs vs hormone nasty ick. Excellent fertilizer for free. I'm unincorporated so anything goes.

GE I imagine doesn't allow them but its getting to be a controversy in other communities. Frankly I'll take chickens over barking dogs any day. Smile

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you need at least 2 acres in Du Page to raise chickens. If you have less acreage you may be able to do it if you are a member or it has something to do with 4H.

Sorry I'm a bit vague on it, It's been many years since I had the urge to own more things I need to feed, water and clean up after.

FWIW, My neighbor has chickens and they stink! I mean really really stink!

I'll just opt to paying a few extra bucks for the organic ones at Whole PaycheckFoods.

Feel free to come over and shovel out my horse pen anytime. You can keep it all! No charge and I'll even let you take my leaf pile too! Smile

"FWIW, My neighbor has chickens and they stink! I mean really really stink!"

Worse than pigs? I think pigs and primates are the worst!!!
I wouldn't think they would smell bad at all. My bird is the least smelling pet we have ever had and we've had them all.

My neighbors dog poop stinks when he craps in my yard and I step in it. I say we follow Naperville- always have been legal there in residential yards.

But really? you actually have neighbors with chickens? LOL! better call the Village Manager before he's gone.

You want me to "snitch" on my neighbors? What kind of neighbor do you think I am?! Anyhow, he gives me a basket of eggs couple of times a month just to keep my mouth shut. Smile

Just wonderin' Smile
I just get crazy thoughts like "I want chickens". The eggs are supposed to be amazingly good and essentially free- (well the cost of "chicken feed").
But of course my spouse reminds me this is like me wanting to put a wind generator on the roof. Pretty easy just to write com ed their check in the end.

I believe it may be 3 acres and you need a coop
here's a recent article about Lombard.
My brother had to deal with DuPage County and I believe it was 3 acres and a coop.
