Does anyone know a local provider of lawn mower maintenance and repair services? Something is wrong with the throttle on ours. I think the cable may have caught on something and a connection was loosened.
Given the number of men residing in your home . . . I'd have one of them look at it. Or take it to Len's Ace. They are surly when it comes to repairs, but they are close and get things fixed/tuned. Have the blade replaced while you're at it. And the air filter.

I've used Doug Hickey at A-1 a few times for repairs (630-439-4356). He's on Hillside between Bryant and Longfellow. Works out of his garage. Fast, good service at reasonable prices.
I did call Doug Hickey and not only did he offer to pick up the mower, he offered a loaner if I needed one. A few days later he delivered it back to me looking so clean, that at first I wasn't sure if it was ours. It needed only a tune-up and is running very well again.
Doug gave me a business card listing other handyman services he provides and I was able to give him a couple windows to take along, too - one that needed reglazing and another that needed a broken pane fixed. He also repairs window screens, does lock and key service, sharpens tools, does small engine repairs, and more.
In summary, good guy, prompt service and affordable pricing. The total for the tune-up was $55 and included blade sharpening, new spark plug and air filter.
I was surprised recently when I returned a couple of items to the Wheaton Bukemas. I had bought the items at Lens. They suggested doing the return to Lens because the items cost more at Lens and then only refund to the amount that they charge.
Ditto with the screen repair sticker shock at ACE. I took in a sliding screen door figuring it's 20-30 minutes tops for a part-timer high school kid handy with that doo-hickey spline tool to replace the screen. WAH! My fault for not asking $ but I think I didn't pay much more for the entire screen door new!
BTW from my experience retailers are increasingly playing mark-up games with the individual merchandise they carry. First noticed this years ago at Walmart- e.g. cheap drill- super expensive drill bits. When I was in Michigan this summer I bought a bunch of stuff at the local independent hardware store and what I couldn't get there I got at Menards. For the heck of it I compared Menards prices to the local guy, figuring Menards would be cheaper. No way- the independent guys was 50-60% cheaper for the little stuff- hardware, screws etc. than Menards.
Doug revived our battered and beaten lawn mower. Tune-up, oil change, blade sharpening, new air filter (hard to believe it could breath at all), and a really good cleaning. He also replaced the cable that had stopped working. Thanks to all for the recommendation. A few screens, and some windows are en route to him for repair.
Thanks for posting on this thread today. Our mower broke on Sunday and I was "this close" to just letting it slide until next year, but I think I'll call one of these people to see if they can fix it.

Cool. I'll take my blower and mower to him in the late stages of winter.
Got a Stihl blower and a Honda mower. The mower is only a couple of years old, but I'm surprised at how it has headed downhill so quickly. And I take care of stuff. Just don't make 'em like they used to.
Now if I could only get him to work on a 1971 BMW.
