Just though it might be interesting to start a thread where we could post when the cicadas struck where how hard and when.

Anyone know what the ETA is?

I haven't seen or heard any yet, but this afternoon i was puttering around in my yard, and noticed a whole bunch of suspicious holes in the dirt. Makes me think the little red-eyed devils are out there molting and drying at this minute.

They are about 6 inches deep right now. (At least they were last week). I dug up a couple last week when planting a tree. They'll be out in no time.

Now it is time to get my tu-tus.

Expect cicada photos. Lots of cicada photos. Anyone have a 100mm Canon EF macro lens for sale? Might be a good time to get one so I can capture their scary & eerie glowing, hypnotizing eyeballs.

I've been seeing quite a few mysterious holes in my yard with a small pile of dirt surrounding them. Wondering if this is a cicada that came up for air. I did find one when I was digging in my garden. It was not ready for the surface, moving very sluggishly. That must suck, live underground for 17 years only to get to the surface 2 weeks early...

We have hundreds & hundreds of holes in our back yard too. Deep, narrow, but not what I'd call cicada larva sized. But if they were cicadas, then we're in for an experience this side of a horror movie because they'd be the size of the flying monkeys in Wizard of Oz. What a photo op that would be.

I found a Cicada in the garden on Sunday evening and it was only 3-4 inches down in the ground. I also found some red bug that looked like a medicine capsule. I have yet to look it up to see what it is.

The entire Yigo92 family will get to experience the Cicada's for the first time. I think the Cicada "singing" will be competition for the youngest as he is the loudest in the family.

With all the little piles of dirt in my yard, it looks like it's been aerated. The cicadas are coming....soon.

And for the record, when I showed Clamato a cicada that had come up early he dismissed it as a grub. He was quite snotty about it as well.

That aloof prick clearly doesn't know his insects.

I tasted one. Tasted like a grub. Then I drove away in one of my many BMW products. Had to leave because Ruydah is obsessed with the phenomenon know as "Dancing With The Stars". It was obvious he had no time for me.

It will be pretty evident to anyone who has seen clam, that he is pretty inclusive in terms of what he considers "grub".

You left after seeing my daughter's utter disdain for you. She's not even 2 and yet has already figured out that you are someone to be avoided. Smart kid.

You don't know how much I cried as I drove to Dominick's. I simply could not believe that response. She really is an awful child. But there is hope in the male Ruydah child.

I have to say, I am kind of excited about the cicadas coming. I was in high school last time and didn't pay them much mind, but since moving to GE have become an avid gardener and lover of all things nature, and this is just a cool pheonomena. I mean really, where will we be the next time they come around (isn't that a line from the GE favorite movie LUCAS)?

I know I'll regret my enthusiasm in a couple of weeks when they get out of hand, but I still think it is cool. And after a visit to the Arboretum today, I learned that they are safe for pets to eat (they may just get a stomach ache). That's all I was really worried about as I have no doubt my dog will do a taste test.

Not only are they not poisonous, they are a delicacy.

Oh, and Gemsa, you have someone asking a question of you in the deck thread.

I found this on youtube all by myself without help from anyone. It is totally cool and I'm glad I can share my find with you.

I find the best things to share with you. One more reason why it's good to know me.
