Any opinions on which type of snow blower to get? I have about 150' of driveway, long front walk. Also, since Momof3 doesn't carry a gun, I have to swing by Fan's house too.

I am thinking about a single stage Honda or Toro. Any other thoughts? BTW its supposed to snow again Wednesday, so do not dawdle.

Neighbor has a 3.5hp Toro which works like a son-of-a-bitch. Can't imagine you need anything bigger than that.
I think this is it....

They do throw...not blow. I think they have always been throwers.

I'm with you Marena. Have always heard them referred to as snow blowers. Technically, they push the snow. Snow pushers.....knew some of those back in the hood.

The Wovel. I am pretty sure not even GEFan would let me shovel his walk with that thing.

Sears Craftsman, 5.5 HP with Electric Start. Used it for the first time this snow storm and I look forward to using again Wednesday.

We currently have 2, an Ariens 8 H.P./2 stage and a 7.5 H.P./2 stage Toro. Mr. Arten says there is no comparison. The Ariens is the far superior machine. With a 150' driveway, you probably don't want to get a single stage, especially if the snow gets deep. We used to use the I.H. tractor with a blade on the front, but after a winter with heavy snow, you run out of places to push the snow.

I have a snow blower/thrower etiquette question...if 2 neighbors each have a snow blower/thrower, if 1 neighbor plows the other's property 1 week, is it expected for the other neighbor to reciprocate next time? What if 1 neighbor has a snow blower/thrower and 1 does not? Is a small thank you gift to show appreciation acceptable or do I have to lick up my neighbor's snow? To wovel or not to wovel...that's one question.

Then, here's another one. My inlaws take the whole clan Christmas shopping every year to Schaumburg. They have a huge family, so this is extemely nice and generous of them. They have 9 kids and 8 of them have significant others/spouses. All are included on the shopping trip. Every year, the inlaws spend ~ $150/person. The only thing is that each person has to pick out their own present. I have a hard time doing this because I feel awkward imposing on them. I honestly don't need anything - clothes-wise or anything else. What my hubby and I really need is a snow blower/thrower. Would it be extremely nervy to ask for a combo gift and ask for one of these @ ~ $300? Honest opinions, please.

Jen....if it were my inlaws I'd pay them to leave me at home! Shopping AND Inlaws....D.I.V.O.R.C.E. On your other question, back when my parents had a snow blower, I did a number of our neighbors walks and driveways. No strings attached. Usually a thank you came my way. If someone expects something in return for a nice gesture then they are not really that nice.

I hope I don't live next to you, GE Fan. With that type of attitude, I might want to create a reindeer porn fest in your front yard.
