How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Yes, we had Winkler's Tree Service care for our magnolia tree and was happy with their service. I can't give you any information about their tree removal service though. We are actually looking to have a tree removed fairly soon so if you have any recommendations for that service, I'd appreciate any. Thanks!
We just had McLaughlin Tree Service do some major conservation work on two large, old trees. They did a great job. They were the most expensive of the three bids we got, but we selected them because they seemed the most competent. The first company bid less than half of what McL charged, but he gave us the bid on a business card. We called back and asked for a written proposal and insurance certificate, and that was the last we heard. The second one would only do part of the job. So we ended up with McL. Great job, cleaned up well, the trees look great (though majorly pruned!)

We just had Winklers out to give us a quote. To take out to large birch trees and grind out the stumps, it was $850. The proposal was written on the spot on a actual contract. I am not sure how their prices compare, but we do have a very tight area for them to get too. I am thinking we are going to put this off until the Spring, but then I heard that the roots grow in the winter.
By the way there is a listing of tree companies who have registered with the city out at the Village site.
Winklers -is or was our tree service at one point for Glen Ellyn. They are Chicago's also.

I took the village's list, then cross checked it with www.checkbook.org, to which I subscribe. I called only the companies that were on both lists and highly rated on Checkbook. So anyway, I'm sure there are lots of good companies out there, and a few scam artists.
I think there's a BIG difference between just removing a dead tree and trying to save a live one. For a removal, I'd get the cheapest company that could produce a real live insurance certificate.
