Score another vote for the clinic. Convenient hours, close location. But I personally don't mind what doctor we see, just that we're able to see them ASAP when we need to.

I have nothing good to say at all about the GE Clinic so I'll shut my trap on that.
But Dr Lee is the best, so are all the other docs there and their staff. And Dayna, I highly recommend a Family Practice over a ped's doc, esp if any family members have issues that effect family life. Good Luck. |

Dayna welcome to the area! We have used the clinic for years. Dr. Morris was great with my girls when they were little- actually I have had no complaints with any of the doctors there- now my preference is Dr. Murphy and when I can schedule an appointement for a physical I try to get him either in Danada or GE, but when sick I will take any of the doctors- the 7 day a week availability is a huge benefit!

Hi Dayna, Welcome to GE. We have used Glenbard Family Medicine (Drs. LoBue, Ellens and Lee) since we moved here 6 years ago. Dr. Ellens was the Dr. that examined my son in the hospital the day after he was born , it is still nice to be able to see her.
We have been very happy with the service we have received and the nurses are very good with small children especially when it comes time for shots. Dr. Ellens has 2 young children of her own and I think that having children in the same age bracket as you is a big plus in my book. I hope this helps. |

Thanks for all the input. It really helps so that I'm not blindly picking a doctor to care for my children.
We'll be the big moving truck blocking Pleasant Ave. on Tuesday! Wish me luck moving this week with three kids under 4! |

Sorry, meant Me & kids go to the clinic. The wife goes somewhere else...it is at the corner of duane and park, can't think of it's name. What you mean living so far south? I live north of Roosevelt! |

My kids (now almost too old for peds) have seen Dr. Eva Wyrva at GE Clinic for many years, through all the ups and downs of adolescence and attention deficit disorder. She's been great, and neither wanted to switch to an internal medicine physician. I agree that the atmosphere there is a little bit assembly line -- but when they were younger and prone to ear infections, it was great to be able to get in quickly and conveniently, 7 days a week. I never found a doctor there that I wasn't comfortable with, and Dr. Wyrwa is just great -- really helpful, knowledgeable on whatever issues came up. Liked my kids.

An excellent alternative to the Clinic for urgent care, should you be seeking one, is Danada Convenient Care across the street from Wheaton Town Center ant Naperville and Blanchard.

I'll second that Clam...been going there for years. You might want to try the new one in downtown Lombard on Main...just as convenient, brand new, clean and great people. The Dananda one is a satellite of Central DuPage while the Lombard one is a satellite of Elmhurst Memorial...two hospitals I would personally never choose for a stay...prefer Good Sam from experience.

That clinic is the same group as the Glen Ellyn Clinic- Some doctors are split between the facilities. We sometimes see Dr. Murphy in Glen Ellyn and sometimes in that Wheaton office- both are part of the Dupage Medical Group.

What I really like about Danada is the orthopeadics practice we frequent is conveniently next to convenient care office...something someone like you, Clam, (with kids who are prone to injury) could take advantage of and make life less stressful.

Good Sam....best hospital out this way. I hope when I have my heart attack that I'm lucid enough to steer the ambulance guy away from Glen Oak Hospital. That place gives me the creeps.

My father made us swear that we would never let him be taken there...even DOA.

Glen Oaks just completed major remodeling and expansion of their ER. Hopefully that will take out the "heebie-jeebie" feeling you get, Clam. That said, if you are in a serious world of hurt with anything, generally Level 1 hospitals have the most diverse services available. At the same time, for lots of things, I'm sure Glen Oak is up to par.
I'm interested why M2C's Dad never wants to go to Good Sam. I know they do good work as my husband assisted on an accident scene a couple of years ago here in GE and told the EMT's he needed to go to Good Sam for Level 1 Trauma...the guy easily could have died but didn't and apparently received very good care. As for pediatricians, we go to GE Clinic too. My husband went there basically his entire life and for a bit, we even had some of the same docs he had! However, they've had a good number of new hires in recent years and our experiences have been good (with a few, minor exceptions). Our designated doctor of choice is Dr. Abassian. We like her very much. She's calm, soft-spoken, yet confident and intelligent. She is obviously up-to-speed on the latest medical research though she is very traditional so if you want a doc who is open minded about things like sensory integration therapy OR if you think Chicken Pox vaccination isn't necessarily the right choice for every little kid, you might find yourself bumping heads with her. I love their hours so I can get in with my sick kid from 8am to 9pm and on weekends for long time slots too. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. Ahhhh. Gotcha. Well, my husband has done some shifts there (very recently) though he's not on full-time. Too bad, it's darn close and I believe my husband is a very good ER doc (yes, I'm biased but I also know he recently graduated from one of the top ER programs in the country based on board scores). GO doesn't pay very well - at least not well enough. Perhaps that will change someday soon. He liked the docs he worked with and found the nursing staff to be pretty good. Sorry your Dad had a bad experience there. Hopefully it's better now.

Ok. We go to West Suburban Pediatrics Near Yorktown Mall
DuPage Medical Group- West Suburban Pediatrics 500 East 22nd St. Unit D Lombard, IL 60148 Pediatrics 630 620 6322 Dr. Mark Weiss. He is seriously wonderful...not to mention toally bizarre! He was recommended to us by some family friends who bring their kids there. He has been awesome. Ry had speech delays as well as other issues and he was all over it, getting us into the early intervention program and keeping up with his progress. I am very glad we found him. As for Good Sam....Ry was hospitilized 3 times his 2nd/3rd year. He would refuse to drink when sick and would get dehydrated. That pediatric unit is awesome. They were really friendly, helpful, and gave him all sorts of free (new) toys that were donated to them that the kids get to take home after their stay is through. Since I'm posting this I am also going to give a shout out to Arborviews AWESOME preschool teacher Mrs. Chris Gillis who teaches the delayed kids. Under Ms. Chris, Ry finally started using more than 3 words...He has bloomed. All summer long it has been, when can I see Ms Chris again???? He was promoted to a mixed afternoon class filled with non delayed and delayed kids and we lucked out to get Ms Chris again! Arborview in general is just the best school ever. |

Don't be so quick to dismiss Glen Oaks. The E.R. saved my dad from a nearly fatal heart attack. He ended up in the Glen Oaks ICU for a week, then went to Rush Presbyterian for two weeks, where he had his open heart surgery. He has always said his experience at Glen Oaks was far better than at Rush.
Also, a close friend of ours had her spleen removed at Glen Oaks just about 6 weeks ago. She is a nurse for a large downtown hospital (think big 10) and has worked there for 10 years in the transplant unit. Her experience at Glen Oaks was great and she has even commented that they are doing certain things better here than at her 'big name' city hospital. Also, my sister had all three of her children at Glen Oaks. This is actually an area they have always excelled in since they opened. They have a great OB department. So, what I'm trying to say is don't dis a certain institution just based on hear-say throughout the area. Glen Oaks has gotten a bad rap more for its location than for its services, IMHO. Believe me, I've heard plenty of horror stories about CDH, Good Sam, Hinsdale, you name it...I really don't bother to listen as I don't think there is a hospital in the nation that doesn't screw up somewhere/sometime. If a hospital is really that bad, Joint Commission would have it shut down in no-time (I know, because I used to work for JC). |

I stand corrected. And I offer my olive branch to both GER and the GOH.
