So in this sense of the word, I seem to have a "brown thumb" (not like that, you gross people!)....I kill every plant I have tried to nurture. This may be because I've always lived in apartments and haven't had a yard for them to thrive in, but I would like to eventually learn how to garden and grow my own herbs and vegetables at least.

Does anyone have any tips on how I could possibly start this process without a yard??

Hahaha, that's awesome. I've never actually read one of those "for Dummies" books....are they legitimately useful?

You need to look into Container Gardening. There are a lot of books & magazines about that, and websites, as well. But anything you can grow in the ground, you can grow in a pot. You just need to be careful about the kind & size of container, the soil, fertilizer, etc.

Great, thanks for the info! I will look into both and see what comes up. Any websites for gardening idiots that you can recommend?

After the lousy crop of tomatoes I had this year, I'd say gardening IS for idiots. Frown

My favorite garden site is gardeners supply

Lots of great ideas and stuff.

We have done well with tomatoes this year but we also kind of cheated. I bought a plant at the Growing Place in Naperville that already had blossoms and a couple of tomatoes. Bingo! Bumper crop!

Our neighbor's tomatoes are being raided by the squirrels in our tree. I am waiting for the bill. Surely it will cost me some sort of adult beverage.

Thanks, South! I'll definitely check it out!
Hang in there, Shore! Keep at it, you never know what might pop up next time.

RMK, can I bill you for an adult beverage as well?

another great website is Gardenweb.com

I tried a container garden one year... didn't work out very well. There are specific veggies that grown pretty well in pots. I'm sure that website will be a great help.

Thanks, Cannes!

Lmao @ Perplexed....funniest part is, the company I work for used to be a part of DuPont, lol.

South, I couldn't agree more. Some people have it and some don't....but I've never really given it a serious try yet. Thus far it's all been plants I know nothing about or random potted flowers from the kids that I just haven't had time to care for properly. *crosses fingers* here's to hoping Smile
