I am embarrassed to say it, but I don't know what on earth this stuff is all over our yard. I'd say it is probably goose-poop, but it looks different than the stuff laying all over Lake Ellyn Park.

It's kind of yellow-orangish, liquidy, and there are clumps (puddles) of it here and there around our property. Our neighbors have it on their property too. Once it dried up it became sort of powdery looking.

My husband said it had to have come from some sort of animal. But which one? Could it be some sort of fungus? Either way.....ewwwwww!!!! Yuck.

Other than being concerned about my kids stepping in it, I am not sure how to clean it up. Help!

Is it a real light tan color - almost looks foamy??? I've seen it in two neighbors yards but not mine. It is generally in a an area where there is mulch too...I'm guessing it is something in the mulch this year - just a hunch.

Would love to know if anyone knows what this is because it is really gross and the people who have it by me are scared to touch it.

Is it possible that it's a fungus or a mold of some type? We may have had the right conditions for it -- hot and then rain. You might try looking on the U of I extension web-site. Try searching by "lawn rust" -- even if that's not the problem, you may get some information on other types of problems with suggestions on how to combat it.

Good luck.

It is some type of fungus. I see it all the time around areas that are newly mulched (that dark brown mulch) Spray it with the hose and it kind of explodes.

Fungus among-us? Yuck. I think you are right b/c it never shows up on the grass, just on our mulched areas, in flower beds, etc. My husband was convinced it was the droppings of some sort of animal - highly doubtful because I can't think of any animal that would leave stuff like that in our yard.

Thanks everyone.

I had the same stuff last year. My neighbor said it was from another neighbor's cat. I just shook my head and agreed. He hates that cat. This year I haven't seen it. If anyone finds out what it is please post.

To answer your question M - I found it online at this link:

Sure enough, that's the slime we had in our yard! Grossed me out so bad I wouldn't let the kids play on our swingset until we discovered what it was.

Good luck - I just used the high-power setting on our hose to get rid of it.
