Anyone ever have their main sewer lined? Before we shovel out the $$$ to get it done, was wondering if anyone here has done it or bypassed doing it and used other methods like root killers/etc...

I would consider talking with someone about running a new line. For us it was much cheaper than repairing the old line. We had big issues with line right outside our house and then all the way to the street there were issues. Because the line ran under our driveway, most estimates involved ripping up the driveway and destroying our porch on the side of the house ("front door" is on the side). Then someone came up with the idea of ignoring the bad pipes, re-doing pipes in basement and running a new line out the front of the house as if it was new construction. Destroyed a few shrubs and some lawn, and one section of sidewalk. Much cheaper and allowed us to improve the pipe layout in the basement which allowed us to move pipes up into the roof instead of five feet off the floor as they did 100 years ago.
Had a plumbing company come out and run a camera, and the company I work for did the same. If it was an artery, it would be giving me a heart attack long ago. It was about 95% clogged and it took the first company 12 hours to get through it from one end to the other (about 60 feet). The estimate to dig it up outside the house, then under our foundation were astronomical, the lining is astronomically less. I talked to 3 companies and it is a very very good solution compared to digging the think up and putting new pipe in.
Sorry ted, I answered my own question.

I'd spend the money to replace the line. The linings are not nearly as reliable as replacing the line with PVC....unless they've come up with some other kind of amazing product that didn't exist a few years back. We replaced the line - close to the best thing we've done in our home improvement projects.
