I'm sitting here with my little dog on my lap, finally able to get her to sleep. She's been up for 1 1/2 days straight. I feel awful. I feel like I've poisoned her. I put on her shoulders and base of tail the Bio-Spot flea & tick etc. etc oil that slowly gets absorbed and she has had a reaction. I've used different brands and even used veterinary stuff, they are very similar ingredient wise. I now have learned that reactions can come from both the veterinary stuff as well as the stuff on the pet store shelf. She has been ultra hyper, panting, breathing fast, racing heart, cannot sit/lay for more than 5 seconds, crying, whimpering. I stayed up with her all night as she started to get aggressive and violent with her bed as well as our bed when she saw us in bed. She has/had been unable to sleep or lay down. Upon researching and it dawning on me this morning that the connection was probably her flea medicine and not something else -stomach ach, UTI, ear mites... I called the company and spoke to their poison vet. He had me immediately douse her in Dawn and rinse and keep washing her every few hours. Benadryl too. I have an appointment with my vet soon as she is still the same unless I prop her up and stay nearby. I see slight, and I mean very slight improvement, in that she only twitches now when trying to sleep but progress non-the less. Anyone else here ever have that or hear of it or had a pet that was ultra hyper, restless, agitated for hours and days on end? She is miserable.
I have a friend with a Yellow Lab that used to use Bio-Spot. The dog went nuts when she put it on. Tried to rub it off in the grass. Switched to Frontline and has had no problems since. She feels terrible that she tortured her dog like that.
We live about 10 miles from Drs. Foster/Smith warehouse. I inquired about Bio-Spot. Most breeders use Frontline for just that reason.
Call your vet a.s.a.p. They may want to see the dog. Most reactions are a localize dermatitis. Mrs GEM D.V.M. recommends you stick with the Front line. The pet store/over the counter products aren't recommended. It is not recommended to use these products if your dog is older or prone to seizures. Anyhow, contact your vet a.s.a.p.
Good Luck!
I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me.
Lincolnshire. We were thinking of opening a clinic in GE, however she has had to listen to many stories about what a pain in the arse Glen Ellyn can be. (this is from personal experience) She opted for a more business friendly town.

Went to the Vet's yesterday - Actually Frontline is one of main culprets, so that idea is nixed. So is Advantix, pretty much all of them have their problems, Vet or OTC. Same ingredients in Frontline as what I just used, meaning my dog will get the same reaction again. That God that's all it was, the vet incouraged me just try a different combination and not use that brand again. I'm not mad at the product, just upset that she got unlucky and had to go through this. Actually my dogs been using Hartz and Sentry, the cheapie stuff and actually did very well, so go figure. I'm kinda releaved it was just that - a Major reaction/adverse and I'm seeing very slow progress but nothing of great concern. No sleep and up constantly but hopefully within a few days she'll be her old self or she is going to either have a stroke or have major exhausion. I may try Advantix next time or maybe just stop using that stuff altogether on all the animals. I'm attempting to leave for a while and see how she fares.
