Lupe - that's the mascot for the Wishbone restaurants. Looks like Snuggles, my friend's poodle, who'd like nothing more than to rip my face off.

Once had a secretary that was pretty crazy. Ended up canning her. But, she used to brag that she had 3 pit bulls. Couldn't figure out why until my other employees told me that they suspected her of drug dealing. What better home security system than a snarling pit bull?!!

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to look that up right after this. I put that picture as my desktop picture! Your friends poodle must be a standard. Standard poodles are really neat dogs. However, I'm sorry that Snuggles is giving you impression of 'harming' you. That does seem out of character, but I'll say one thing, poodles - Toy through Standard are not the dainty rain drops we all would like think they are. My new pet - mom's poodle -is turning out to be pretty good dog. Despite all the complaints I say of her, she's alright!!! and a very typical dog! Not dainty at all! She's as raunchy as they come.

Fan, let me clarify.... Punk, tough guy, gangster status. Not upper class, rich man status. I am sure a lot of people own these not because the love of the dog, but because of the "status".

Oh - now we're on the same page.

Now that we got that cleared up - I agree with you 100%.

Gotta go bust a cap in one of my homies.

Hi,

As the owner of a Lab who lays down and pees on himself when others approach, I think I might be a bit spoiled. Smile But I have to admit, when I see one of those pit bulls approaching, my instinct is to get the heck out of its way. You never know when the owner might accidently drop the leash. No good reason to own one of those dogs unless you are using them as some form of 'protection.'

I'm comfortable enough with dogs that "pits" don't really worry me. And I've seen enough poorly behaved/controlled/trained dogs of all breeds not to single out pits as a particular concern. In fact, I've known some really neat pits/American Bulls/Staffs/bulls. IMO&E, a well bred/socializzed/trained "pit" is absolutely no more or less of a threat than any other breed.

BUT, I would never own on myself. Why? Well, I've seen enough people spaz and nearly wet themselves at the site of my goofy goldens while walked on leash. I have no interest in getting a dog that is going to open me up to even more adverse reactions of that type.

Are you certain that they are reacting in that manner to the thing on the collar end of the leash?

I wish people didn't stereotype pit bull/AmStaff owners as gang bangers, drug dealers, etc. No one says that about bulldogs Confused

There are so many in shelters that need adopting. I understand that it's not the right dog for everyone, but I hate that they are consistently passed over because people think that no respectable citizen would own one.

Just like many other types of dogs, with appropriate training, they can make wonderful, loyal pets.

I freak over German Shepards - but I adore Dobermans - go figure!

Funny story. Before I was born, my father brought home a gigantic young adult Doberman. My mother practically had a heart attack right on the spot. Apparently, my father knew a man who ran a patrolling guard dog business (which is probably obsolete now) and this particular dog had such a gentle disposition that he "flunked" guard dog training school, so he gave the dog away to my dad. Chief was HUGE, but didn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He was a wonderful pet for a family with small children who rode him, laid on him and otherwise loved him as only a toddler can love a large dog.

But, my mom said that she had the hardest time with deliverymen, the mailman and strangers because he was so intimidating.

Only drug dealers, gang bangers and prostitutes have bulldogs. [And my law partner, who is may very well be one of the three - who am I to judge?].

Fine, there, I said it.

I realize that statement came out of nowhere, I guess I was just thinking that people are so afraid of pit bulls because of their "locking" jaws, but bulldogs have that same biting style where when they bite down, they don't let go. In fact, because of the length of their teeth, bulldogs can cause more damage in a single bite than a pit bull.

Dogs began behaving better in the late 20th century. No need to keep stats any longer.
