I am new to Glen Ellyn, I have two dogs and need to find a good vet. I have one dog that itches constantly. The vet in Elmhurst on 83 told us it is allergies, pumped her full of steroids, took $300 and never calls us back.
We use the Glendale Animal Hospital on North Main Street. Been there for about six years. When our first dog started itching a lot, the vet gave us some common sense advice, rather than going the drug route. We just switched his diet and it greatly improved. (For some reason, if chicken was the main protein in his food, it made him itchy.) Good luck.
I also use Glendale Animal Hospital. They have taken great care of my dogs for 14 years. Last year my shi tzu ate a bunch of stuff he shouldn't have and ended up with a blockage. They kept him and watched him over night and did the surgery on Sunday morning. They called to keep me posted on his condition until he was ready to come home and I was able to visit him there daily. (Rates were reasonable too)

We have been very happy with the Lombard Animal Hospital on St Charles...their phone # is 627-7090. They have a great staff, and a good boarding option if you need it.
The Glen Ellyn Animal Clinic just south of Roosevelt on Park Boulevard has been good to our pets. They, too, have boarding options and work closely with various rescue organizations in both fundraising and housing animals for adoption. This clinic is open every day of the week.
I certainly agree that Glen Ellyn Animal Hospital is a wonderful place to take your dogs for any reason. In the last 35 years we have had 5 dogs and the GE Animal Hospital has seen us through the lives of 4 and are currently involved in the newest dog, our 5th who is still a rather large and energetic puppy. They have always been there for all our needs and we value their clinic. We like them and so have our dogs. (Or at least they have not balked upon entering and that is a good sign!)
Glendale Animal Hospital on North Main gets my vote too. Not only are the Vet's there very knowledgeable, but they are also compassionate. When our 17-year old Lab was ready to be 'put down' they offered to come to the house to perform the process and it made the entire process much easier to bear.
Based on the many responses above about Glendale, I decided to visit there a week ago. One of the three Vets took me on a personal tour of the place. Since we are "cat persons," I was happy to see several cats that live there, including "Rocky," which has got to be the largest cat I have ever laid my eyes on. 32 pounds? Holy Moly!!!
We will transition our two cats (one 14 yrs. & the other just 16 weeks old) over there as soon as possible.
My parents are boarding their dog at the GE Animal Hospital and we picked her up for the weekend. Don't exactly get the warm and fuzzies in that place. Any other options for boarding?
Nothing more dismal than pumping no-lead into the wagon and listening to the sad barking of those prisoners. I've never heard anybody say anything good about the people there.
I've heard good things about the place in Lombard on St. Charles for boarding.
Our pooch is pushing 12 and has never spent a night in a dog motel. I don't think she'd like it at all. I base this thinking on how she acts when she has to go to Blue Ribbon. Fortunately, lots of people are willing to watch her as she is a good houseguest.
We have been very pleased with boarding our dog at Lombard Animal Hospital on St Charles (we use them as our vet also). Our dog has been boarded there several times and she doesn't mind going back there.
She favors the mini bar filled with rawhides and snausages. Our dog is 14, and we didn't have to start boarding her until last year (no one left to take care of her). I don't like having to board her, but we have no choice. Lombard came very highly recommended by our dog lover friends, who use it often.
