Well, we found our girl--a 3-pound, black and white Shih-Poo (mini poodle + Shih-Tzu.) Her name is Daisy (aka Daisy Mae), and she's 11 weeks old.

Thanks, all, for your helpful suggestions. We ended up getting Daisy in a pet shop. Although we strongly support adopting homeless pets, she was just too cute to walk away from. I wish I could attach a picture.

Next question. Does anyone happen to know the dog license requirements in Glen Ellyn, if any?

My theory is if you don't need a license to have kids then you sure as H. E. double hockey sticks don't need one for a dog.

I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac.
I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

Recommended but not required. Have lived here 11 years with a dog and never had one.

Take the money and buy a Kong instead. Oh...they make me laugh the way they unpredictably bounce around.

A dog license is required, cats require one too!
Normally they are very cheap...$5-$10 at the most.

If your dog is ever found loose, the fines can be steep, especially if it makes the trip to county to be "chipped" for tracking purposes.

I always thought that the letter they sent around specifically stated that it was suggested but not necessary.

I never trust anything I say...

I am an 11-year law breaker. Hope Ted doesn't get subpoenaed by the village as they no doubt will be wondering who and where I am.

Ted's so cozy with the Village these days -what with the web site and GETV issues- that I'm sure he'd voluntarily offer up Clamato and all other dog license scofflaws at the drop of a hat. No subpoena requried.

I am so sorry to hear that you bought a puppy from a pet store. Pet store puppies come from puppymills. http://www.puppymillrescue.com

The ASPCA and Humane Society estimate that at least 90% of all the puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills.

Otto came from a breeder. Will never understand why somebody would buy something that is going to be a member of your family for 12 or 14 years...living in your house...without knowing something about it.

If only you had the opportunity to do that with kids...I know of two current GE residents that would be living elsewhere.

We adopted our little guy, he was orphaned by Katrina. We know a little about his background, but probably not enough.

He was from Mississippi, a Rebel fan of course!

Westie you are correct. Approximately 90% of puppies in pet stores are from puppymills. Possibly more. I guess it depends on your own definition of a puppymill. You are also correct Clamato. If you cannot visit where the dog was raised as a puppy or otherwise you should not buy that dog. The pet stores make it very difficult though because they usually carry a wide variety of breeds. So you are bound to see one cute puppy while you are looking. It's hard not to feel sorry for the puppies there either. I guess that some people feel like they are saving the puppy but in the long run it only lets the puppymillers continue their practices.

Coming from a Big Dog...I find it very believable and will not look to a "puppy mill" for our new pet.
