We're great fans of the all-natural "Wellness" brand, available at Natural Pet Market -- formerly of Five Corners in G.E., now located in Danada.

The breeder who sold us our new pup notified us about the Diamond Pet Food problem earlier tonight... it was the brand she used when Gabe was still in her hands. Happily (for us) it seems the "sell before" date was last June, and she didn't buy a supply until October. But we really feel for the poor critters and owners who got hit with the contamination problem.

Except for the color...that pup looks a lot like the Firby Santa brought my 6 year-old. Sure likes having its picture taken...

How's the training coming??

Fine-and-dandy, thankew. Whoever it was that invented crate training and its attendant scheduling system gets my award for the best idea of the century.

I wonder if they could create that system for human babies... Big Grin

Seriously though, if we ever give in and get a dog, I will pick your brain about this one, Ted!

Amy, I'm not sure what your resistance points for getting a dog might be, but I have heard a lot of busy families love the Wheaten Terrier breed, as they are bigger than a lap-dog (makes dad happy) and they don't shed (makes mom happy). They are generally good natured and great with kids, too.
I myself have 2 labs, and while I love them to bits, the shedding hair is insurmountable. They are also quite large in my small house.
On the food front, we usually go to the the Glen Ellyn Pet Shop (by Trader Joe's) and buy the Innova brand, because it has only natural preservatives and no fillers. Once I did stop in that Natural Pet Market (mentioned by Ted above), to see if they carry the brand, and the person I talked to simply said "No." I was surprised she didn't offer an explanation, or seize the opportunity for a new customer by offering to stock the product.
p.s. Ted, your puppy is adorable.

He's a Keeshond -- perfect family / companion dog. If-and-when you're ready let me know and I'll give you the whole (wonderful) story. (He's our fourth, so we can speak with a certain amount of authority...)

I know what dog I want already but there have to be people around the house...I don't think it's fair to leave a dog alone all day, everyday (or practically). But someday maybe I'll get to work part time and THEN convince my husband. He does like the breed though:Schipperke

They are SO cute. I like Keeshonds too though.

The Kee and Schipperke breeds are related; both are great companion dogs. Wheaten Terriers -- noted above -- are also great family dogs.

But you nailed it on the head -- they all need people around most of the time. They're not happy being locked in a crate (or even being left alone in a house) from nine to five.

Just great, thank you! Twelve weeks old today, and now also twelve pounds. It's just a few hours from the full moon, so he's in total wacky puppy mode... all socks (and the toes within them) are fair game. Right now he's trying to figure out how to eat a footstool.

The little guy just cracks us up. The breed has a great sense of humor; his has developed very early.
Smile

Oh -- the toxic Diamond Pet Food was all distributed on the East coast, East of Ohio. (Our breeder is in Ohio, and used Diamond puppy food. Scary.)
