Coyotes look bigger than they are. Average weight is 25-35 lbs. Most die before their second year. Only 1% of coyote diet was found to be domestic cat. February is mating time and the couple of weeks prior is territory claiming time. Studies show coyotes avoid humans. However, coyotes become a nuisance when they become "habituated" through feeding by people. In other words, people were feeding wildlife and either intentionally, or unintentionally, fed coyotes. Once coyotes associate human buildings or yards with food, they increase daytime activities and thus are seen more easily by people. Do people know their bird feeders can be causing coyotes to become a nuisance?
