Scotty-
I also live in the area. By any chance, do those pit bulls live on a street connected to Oxford in a house that has extra land? Do you know if anyone reported them?
I occasionally see loose dogs around, but they generally run home before we can catch 'em (they run through our backyard alot). These dogs are happy looking ones that live on Scott/Abbotsford Ct area.

As long as we are on the subject... please put a tag on all the dogs out there with at least a phone number or e-mail address to contact in case of a runaway.
Had a very playful black lab come and jump on dog walkers a couple of nights ago. Went and pulled him off a neighbor and her dog and looked to see where he was from. A tag from a lab rescue organization was the only number and that was a recording. Had no choice but to call the police and have it picked up to scan for a chip. Well trained, great dog. I should have traded my dog for that one.
Luckily, he had a chip and the police reunited him with his owners.
Get collars and tags for all your pets. You never know when or where they will roam.

Retrievers and labs, well, retrieve. Pointers point. Sheep dogs herd, etc, etc.
It's called instinct. And what is a pit bulls instinct? To be aggressive and go after other dogs and strangers. This is a fact. No other dog can claim such a dubious record. They should be outlawed. I mean, what's the point of having one in the first place??

Well said Gus. I could not agree with you more! I don't get it. Is it a status thing?

Pit Bulls? Status? Don't get me wrong, I hate the animals as much as Gus. But Status? Pit Bulls? I don't think so.

There many type of 'bull' dogs out there. Do you know for sure this is a 'pit' bull, as they do resemble many other breeds and 'pit' are indeed several breeds? Actually, it usually it not a 'pitbull' dog after all when the breed is properly identified. Bulls and Terriers do have a wide range of uses throughout history.
But.....Lack of proper socialization and strong training can result in a dog with aggressive tendencies. Under the care of an overly-permissive or uneducated owner, Pit Bulls can become very dangerous dogs... The Humane Society
If this is indeed a pit bull, I think some or all terriers and 'bullys' in general can be considered dangerous without guidance and training from the owner. I have a tiny terrier and she use to be a knucklehead! The antichrist if you will. Big dog in a little body syndrome. She is in my yard constantly.
However, yes-dogs should be on leash or yard and all times controlled!!! Was this just a one time escape with this one dog? Where is the dog now? I live in this area too!

Anything with the word terrier attached to it will gnaw the features off of your children's faces if given the opportunity. I have had a heroic run-in with a pit bull. Once it stopped mercilessly chewing on the poor victim of a collie following a beating with a big stick by yours truly, it was rather docile. Almost sweet. Sort of a four-legged version of nitroglycerin. Sits well on the shelf...only a problem when jostled. So many f-ing breeds out there...why bother with something that is a known problem? Of course, no story would be complete without mentioning that my late, great chocolate lab Otto was viciously attacked twice in her life by dogs. Both incidents....Golden Retrievers. So, any cuddly breed can go goofy. And don't get me started on the topic of silver lab-on-silver lab violence. Just gruesome.

Yes - that's why my non-cuddly - (like most terriers) little terrier is in my fenced yard and not frolicking at the dog park every day! I use to love love love terriers but now - I'm not so sure. (Based on other situations and seeing other terriers -not my dog.) She's been well trained by me and my family but still, you have to have a real interest in taking on the responsibility of owning a terrier. (or any breed, what am I talking about) Dog ownership is a very serious long-life event and responsibility.
Everyone should get a poodle! Now those are gooey dogs.

Nice. And BTW, my husband has tried to patch up people after serious dog attacks....one of the worst things to have to do, trust me. No, trust him.

Remember Clam Man, Lio is first in my heart. Me and my buddy will bust any dog in the chops that goes after your little girl.

The status thing that comes to mind with regards to Pit Bulls would be of the Gang Banger status as I've seen these types owning these dogs.
