Just curious-what's the appeal of paying lots of $$ for a puppy, from a breeder? There are so many puppies/dogs out there that need to be rescued from shelters that are looking for a good home.

Yeah, sure you're just curious. As tho you you are completely ignorant of the arguments you apparently consider unpersuasive. Way to thread$hit, there! Roll Eyes

Stella has a good sound to it. I especially like the way it would sound shouted and streched out if you were calling the dog in. Stel-la! I'll offer up Soapsuds, and Beast.

What happened to the flatcoat?

Our old pup has cancer, and will have to be put down in a couple of weeks/months. We'll see how soon after that we need to start thinking of names ourselves.

Got through watching Cheaper by the Dozen (again) and the dog's name was Gunner - pretty cool name!

If it's a puppy I don't have a problem. However, if not, sometimes other peoples damaged goods. Like your own children, you need to mold and train them. Personally, I wouldn't give up my Buddy (silver lab) for all the tea in China. He's obedient (for the most part), got a great hunting instinct and never gun shy, strong swimmer, durable in cold temps, and is a real lover with a ton of character to boot. LOVES other dogs. As Clam knows, this dog rocks but it does take training and patience from an early age.

Yeah, I thought that was a little unfair of Mr. Dins. Unfortunately his reply reminds me of many that I've written. Dins is normally very honest yet respectfully so. I think you caught at a bad moment. Don't let his response get to you. You bring up a valid point. I've owned dogs from breeders and from shelters. Since they are all dead now, I can honestly say the absolute best dog we ever had was from a shelter. Sorry Cody and Bear, but the oscar goes to Sonny.

I suggest Queenie.

All dogs should be named Queenie.

Or Doug.

So, do you really think any sentient person past middle-school age is so mind-numbingly ignorant that they are "just curious" as to why anyone might possibly desire to get a dog from a breeder instead of a shelter?

IMO either Hermsdaughter's post was disingenuous and she intended to push a "pet rescue" agenda, or she's dumber than a box of rocks. Sorry, but I don't see a valid third choice.

How's this for starters, moron - for whatever reason, clam desires a puppy of a certain breed of dog. You know of a bunch of that breed of puppies languishing in pounds and shelters? Your curiosity sated?

Dins,
So, if Hermsdaughter had used, "I'm always suprised" instead of "Just curious" then you would have found her statement valid? We all express our opinions here and I think you must be having a bad couple of days because you don't typically get so worked up. I recall one other time a year or more ago where you got really pis*ed at me for something I said. I know you aren't really a mean person but your post is making you seem very bitter....maybe you'll re-think it and post later when your mood is better.

Now, as for Clam's dog. I don't think Clam ever told us what name the kids wanted.....I'm still wondering.

OH, MY GOD!!!

What has become of my dog name thread?

Anti-adopters battling with pro-adopters, people pooh-poohing my number one name choice in a landslide (thank you to my true friend, Ruydah, for supporting me)...and then offering up a passel of lukewarm names of their own, videos of giant clams skittering about on a French table. It just isn't going the way that I thought it would. Shame on you all. Go to your respective rooms and think about what you have done.

Yeah - the last thing you would have exected is for a thread in these forums to get hijacked, no? Wink

Better switch to decaf Dinsdale...

Not only do posters have to make sure their spelling is correct, but now we have to make sure we phrase our questions as to not offend anyone!

It simply was just curiousity. I am a fan of adopting shelter dogs for several reasons, some more obvious than others. There are many rescue groups out there that do concentrate on particular breeds (Labs included). Not that I feel I have justify my post, but I was honestly curious on why people chose to pay big bucks to a breeder. I had no intention of getting on my soapbox preaching the virtues of adopting a mutt or pure bred.

It's hard meticulously combing your posts so as to not offend anyone. I've been dealing with it for years. Granted, I've been tremendously successful at it...and you....well, haven't.

Clam, you are such a divisive force on this MB with your highly controversial threads. "New Dog Name..."? You know that's going to get people fired up. What were you thinking? I hope the community can recover from this.

Any suggestions on a name for my daughter?

And no, we never thought about adopting a teenager.

Here's a list of names you might want to avoid, unless you want her to be one of several in each of her classes.

Are we really about to encounter a generation of Avas?
