Dear All: please send your condolences to the Clamato family whose puppy joined Gus in puppy heaven.

Can't remember if it was Wiley Post who wrote: "If dog's don't go to heaven then I want to go where they go when I pass this world". Aint that the truth.

Sorry Clams.

Yes Clam, sorry you had to make that decision. I hope you are drowning your sorrows in a nicely shaken martini....or 5.

Sorry about your baby. Frown I know what you're going through as most of us on this board can. Was he a puppy or an older dog?

Sorry to hear about Otto. How are your sons taking this? I assume that she was here when they were born. When we went through this decision with two of our beloved Goldens, we were told that we should think of the dog first. However that doesn’t make it any easier for their best friends!

Sorry to you Clam and family...I'm sure Otto will always hold a special place for all of you.

Whoa. Sorry. Hadn't seen this till now even though I have been wasting a fair amount of time on this site. Bypassed the animal threads.

Many thanks to all. Tried to justify maintaining her presence for a couple of additional weeks, but watched her fall over twice Friday night. Broke my heart like nothing else. Also, didn't think it would be fair to the boys to let her keep going after they had processed the fact that she was going away. Went to Dr. Wallach for one last time. She is the most compassionate vet I have ever seen. She explained the process, assured us we were doing the right thing, and left us alone with her for a few more minutes. I felt that Otto sensed we were upset and that was making her more anxious, so I brought the Dr. back in to get it over with. We sat on the floor, Otto in our laps, and within 10-15 seconds she was gone. At peace. No longer in pain. We sat with her for five minutes before discreetly ducking out the side entrance...Kleenex in hand.

I can count the number of problems that dog caused on one hand in the nearly 14 years that she lived with us. She was the kind of dog that you would open the door for and she would not even think of leaving the block. Docile, friendly, eager to please. Never seen an animal like her. We'll miss her, the neighbors will miss her, people walking up and down my block will miss her. She was liked by all. Many thanks to Gus and Ruydah for stopping by...with flowers, no less.

I hope she is chasing a squirrel somewhere. She really loved chasing squirrels. The mere mention of the word got her going.

Oh, BTW, if you think that this is a good way to set the tone for a happy birthday for your wife...it isn't. Timing really couldn't be helped.

Hi,

It's been a long time since I've posted on this board. Admittedly, I've been somewhat of a lurker. But reading about Otto's passing really hit home. Our chocolate Lab is 9 years old. Clamato, my heart goes out to you and your family on this loss. We've thought about how we'll handle it when our guy passes on. Sounds like you found the right vet and handled it as best you could. Take Care.

You are all hypocrites! Everyone is rushing to Clam's bedside to wish him and his family condolences. But, if you remember, Amy had to "put down" not one, but two, pets a couple of weeks ago and no one said a damn thing. No one brought her flowers and no one posted heartfelt words of grief. Nope, you all just sat by and watched poor Amy struggle with the decision of whether to flush her fish or throw them into the yard.

Amy, I know how hard that must have been for you....my condolences.

Hi,

Amy I am also sorry to hear about your fishies. If I promise to light a candle for them at St. Pet's, will you make me some more of that bourbon slushie thing?

Smile

Hey Mr. Sensitive,

Excel Driving School called to let you know that they will be at your house about 5pm to teach you how to pull into your garage.
