We have a guinea pig who's 5 years old, approximately (the family can't agree on the age, other than he's outlived our expectations). Unfortunately he's the pet of my youngest son who's a high school senior and is pretty much over the charms of caring for a small pet. Too busy, hardly ever home - not to mention, college next year. Which, of course, leaves the care of the dang thing to - me.

Basically the pig sits in his cage in a dark corner of my son's room, alone, never talked to or played with, fed dutifully twice a day, cage cleaned whenever my son can be bothered. Yet he still continues to live on and on and on...

I actually contacted a guinea pig rescue shelter - yes, there is such a thing - only to be told that they're full, 5 year old guinea pigs are considered seniors and hard to place, and they gave me the name of the Humane Society and Animal Rescue, but of course I know what will happen to the pig if I call them.

But I probably will have to do that, unless anybody around here wants a nice, fat, 5-year-old guinea pig of their own.

(I thought of advertising on Craigs List but then I got horrible notions of somebody coming to get him, only to feed him to a boa constrictor, and I couldn't do that. I'd rather call the Human Society.)

Email me if you're interested.
