If I hear the word "jihad" again I'm going to puke.

Atta Turk brought Turkey into the 20Th century by making it a secular nation. This has brought obvious peace and prosperity not only to Turkey but to the region as a whole.

The fact that Israel has a nuke is the justification for many nations in the ME to have one themselves. Problem is, Israel isn't threatening to anihilate other Arab nations, a position that Palestinians would argue.

The Israelis and certain actions of the West are not blameless. There are some general hard feelings that SOME of the Arabs and Persians harbor to the US. Like the US aid and support of the Shah. But oh, how those days are missed. Know a few Iranian folks who travel back to Iran on a regular basis. The economy is in shambles. Gas lines, inflation, unemployment, even with 130 dollar oil.

The Mullahs have replaced the Shahs buddies with ones of their own. Still an oligarchy, just different folks.

More importantly, there is an e mail floating around regarding several quotations lifted out of Baraks books, "Dreams of my Father" and "The Audacity of Hope". I am in the process of verifying them considering the amount of C### floating around the internet. If they are true, very disturbing.

Do not forget the aid from the West that was given to achieve and maintain this peace and prosperity. Turkey would not be where they are today without the knowledge that there is a definite need to play within the World stage, not to change it to their perspective.

Oil, while still an export staple at 50,000 bbl/day, is nowhere near the economic advantage that the other ME countries have. This makes it less desirable for overtaking by islamic fundamentalists who use that wealth to propogate their message.

Well SR. Herbold, the fundamentalists have taken a few shots at the government but failed so far. The military is there to maintain the status quo. The Turkish Army are some tough hombres. Ask my uncle who served with them in Korea.

Wow - she just puts her foot in her mouth so well, while simultaneously demonstrating her true colors.

Sorry, your moderator is a child of the 60's; Abraham, Martin and John is on his iPod. Assassination threats fall into the "may be removed for any or no reason" category and are not welcome on this board.

The key in conflict resolution is to "pick your battles". Sometimes you engage, sometimes you ignore, sometimes you allow a cooling off period before you engage, sometimes you enlist an objective mediator to lead the effort. Unfortunately, it seems we've just done a lot of ignoring and then lob a few negative comments. (Yeah, that'll work...) Reminds me of quarreling junior high kids or siblings.

That may well work in civilized western thinking countries, (but we don't have many physical threats there). The Muslim nations which McCain and Obama are sparring about are a completely different situation. Iraq and Iran, among other Middle Eastern nations and their governments, want us not only out of their lands, but dead or converted. These are fundamental ideologies that cannot be overcome by open communication between leaders. The notion in this country by some liberals that this is not the case, is an overall disinformation time bomb that the muslim nations use to appease us while they continue their Jihad. There is no winner in this region, ever. Unless the ideologies of the two religions somehow coincide, there will never be peace. Power to keep the area in check or get out. These are the only two options.

Jihad

I agree. I wasn't the one who said it....one of our Democratic Presidential candidates did - or at least alleged it. Go to Drudgereport or any other news outlet...it's clearly newsworthy.

A look into a very dark soul.

GEM - I would like to have you back. You complete me.

It wasn't the first time she said it. March 6 and twice on May 7.

Don't see it as a big deal...people are constantly asking why she is still in the race and then they don't like the answer! She stated known facts and then took a beating for it. Again, the press is sensationalizing everything at this point...

Just finally took the time to watch that Olberman piece. You know, when you stack up all the things she's done in the name of her campaign, as Olberman did, it's pretty clear that she's more power-hungry than any other quality. The fact that she will say almost anything to try and win is pretty scary. Makes you wonder what she'd do behind closed doors if she's willing to say these things in public!
