Hello and Happy New Year! Thanks again to many of you for your support in the Town Meeting election! My sincere hope is that Glen Ellyn is the winner. 2009 has presented a series of challenges, yet it is hard not to be optimistic about Glen Ellyn's future. Obviously, a lot of people care deeply for our village. Participation rates at the Town Meeting, our high schools' fall football and musical events, the holiday walk, recent village board and commission meetings/workshops and many other charity happenings could not have been greater. The more involved residents are, the easier the solutions to the economic and planning issues we face become. Dedicated people working together can accomplish a lot for Glen Ellyn. It oughtta be an exciting year for all of us! Speaking of dedicated people, those attending the Town Meeting had to be impressed with the the candidates who presented themselves and answered residents' questions all day. We are fortunate to have such an intelligent and altruistic group wanting to serve our community. As always, I welcome your comments and questions. Please remember that many FAQs are answered at the website link in my signature below. As Ted states at the start of this thread, please join me Wednesday evening, January 21st, from 9 to 10:30 p.m. for a new experiment in Glen Ellyn communication - an online chat! I will be in the Glen Ellyn Bulletin Board's chat room to answer any questions you may have and solicit your input; or just "listen" to what you have to say. As you know, it is free and easy - and could prove to be one of many effective communication tools as we go forward. Again, happy new year to you and yours and THANK YOU! Mark

Sounds great. I look forward to it. Looks like Mark may have a challenger but I cannot figure out why. Gary Fasules is a good guy from all I have heard but like folks said of Jay Strayer, I feel he is a little removed from current events. Maybe Gary will join the chat? Although I am supporting Mark I wish Gary the best if he does decide to file.

Nobody will say anything but good about GF...everyone should question why he has decided to throw his hat in the ring. He has every right to do so, but I question whether or not this was his decision, what he hopes to accomplish that Mark cannot or will not, and why it is in the Village's best interest not to have a super-qualified candidate like Mark P. working with Manager Jones and the Board prior to Miss Vicky's much-anticipated departure.

Great idea, Mark! Already you are opening new ways to let GE be heard. Hopefully the new technology and convenience will improve participation from the "under-xx" age group, too.

I too found that Gary Fasules running just seems odd. In any of my dealings around GE, I've never heard even a whisper of his name, and then all of a sudden they are having petition signings in the downtown business district to get Mr. Fasules on the ticket??? My gut reaction was just that something really smells, and not in a good way. Well, I still have my Mark Pfefferman sign in the garage, but I really didn't figure I would need it again in the spring. BTW, I really liked Mark's comments in the GE News, regarding that now that he has a running mate, this will take away further from planning for the future of our Village while he now plans yet another campaign. Very well stated Mark!

I do wonder how it will benefit Glen Ellyn to have two qualified people spend further time on the campaign trail. Mark's analysis and comments were, as usual, right on target. There is a Upcoming Elections Forum on this Board. I hope Gary Fasules will take advantage of this technology.

Here is my p and moan for the day. I, and I am sure many other people frequenting this board, would have loved to be part of the web chat last night, but the topic was pushed so far below all the Obama BS that I never saw it. My fault, I know. Is it possible to keep a local elections forum free of all the extemporaneous national dialogue? This would make a clear distinction for some of us that care more for the local issues and less for National. “just like in real life there's still rules on this team. Unlike real life? Nobody's above the rules on this field." – Coach Eric Taylor
