An "ordinary guy" who works 10-12 hour days opposes Mr. Socialist and now the Obama surrogates attack. And you folks talk about venomous hate? This middle class man is supposedly the type of person the dems are so concenred about helping, yet Biden ridicules him on national television. Nothing more than a pure example of the hpocrisy.
Regardless of who Joe is, it doesn't change Mr. Socialist's answer.
And since when all of a sudden are the dems now concerened about "licensed" workers. Seems like there are millions of others that they could equally be picking on too, right? Or is that racist?
Destroy the life of an ordinary citizen for asking a question! Nice.
This whole thing is ridiculous and emblematic of the entire McCain campaign - no substance, all stunt. You could get whiplash following it all. Joe's the latest stunt. The entire point of their attack seemed to be that under Obama's tax plan poor Joe can't buy a business. Which is patently wrong. Poor Joe would have to clear $250,000 personally from his business - licensed or un - in order to be in the bracket that will have higher taxes. Poor Joe probably doesn't come close to that. So instead of addressing the substance of this whole thing, they've seized on the idea of something - again, something patently untrue - as a way to try to get back some momentum. Without, you know - actually talking about policy or the realities of their own tax plan. (Which is definitely not for the "little guys," no matter how many times they trot Joe out.)
First Joe Sixpack, now Joe the Plumber. What next? Joe Camel?
I'm no Republican, that's true. But honestly, I can't remember a more poorly-run campaign. That's what I'd be angry about, were I a Republican.
It's not ridiculous at all. The story is not about Joe the Plumber himself. The story is that Obama admitted he wants to "spread the wealth" around. Obama is a socialist and everyone now knows this because of Joe the Plumber. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bitterboy,
I object to the way the wealth was spread up during this last administration. I've already posted an article showing that while the middle class was losing ground, the top 10% was gaining it...all while productivity rose. So, I'm sure the Republican response will be that those in charge should benefit because they got more out of their workers, but the workers can go to hell. That's not the American way. You're supposed to get paid for hard work. The middle class hasn't been. Gus referred to the greatest generation. They got paid for their hard work, as they should have. What about the same class of people who are trying to raise their families now? Don't they deserve to be paid for increased productivity?
From the article linked below:
quote:
That's because 90% of the growth in U.S. workers' income from 1989 to 2007 went to the top 10% highest earners, EPI said. Income for the top 1% grew 204% since 1989, and the top 0.1% saw their income grow 425% in that span.
Bitterboy, You are entitled to your own opinion regarding any policies being set forth by Obama's campaign but to accuse him of being Communist makes you a laughing stock....save face, and take it back.
FWIW, Here is the definition of Communism: 1 a: a theory advocating elimination of private property b: a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed 2capitalized a: a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics b: a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production c: a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably

I admit I'm totally flummoxed by BB - what winners and losers does he mean, and why wouldn't one try to make decisions based on success?
And, well - Obama is not a socialist. Yet somehow in this weird country of ours, caring about the middle class gets you labeled one. The divide between the upper class and the rest of us hasn't been this huge in many generations - I've heard some compare it to the Gilded Age.
So tell me, again - why is John McCain trotting out Joe the Plumber if it's not just a stunt? He's definitely not representative of the type of household that will benefit from McCain's tax plan.

Lately I have been thinking this sounds a lot like what is happening in our country with the current administration. Especially the bailout where the gov't would "own" part of these companies? And honestly, McCains slogan of "Country First" sounds much like the communist chanting that the good of the Motherland comes before the individual. This combined with past years of attacks on people where they were accused of being unpatriotic or treasonist because they have questioned the government and the current administrations policies and the attack on personal freedoms... it makes one nervous.
Did I hear correctly that despite figuring out that Joe the Plumber isn't all he is cracked up to be that McCain is planning on having him appear along side him in Toledo?
I hate to pile on my GOP friends maverick John and the beautiful Sarah...but must they do everything to throw this election away?
Keep in mind, the cynics in the Republican party throw around "Socialist" because the stoopid base of their party (the ones that watch Fox News or listen to Sean Hannity) believe it is synonymous with Communist (to wit, the scaries that wanted to nuke us). Though Obama is neither, these are fire bombs that Palin and McCain like to toss out to their idiotic sycophants.
These are, typically, the same people that think India is in the Middle East.

Yes, that's correct. Because what his campaign needs is an unlicensed plumber who owes back taxes!! It's Sarah Palin all over again, really - it's all about faces, not about substance.
Whatever. It's not hurtin' my guy, so I'm cool with it.
"[Joe Wurzelbacher a.k.a. Joe the Plumber] told ABC News, among other news organizations, that he makes much less than $250,000, in which case he'd get a tax cut under Obama's plan. But, he said, he hopes to make that kind of money one day.
For now, Joe would certainly qualify for a tax cut under Obama's plan. According to his hometown newspaper, the Toledo Blade, publicly available divorce court proceedings show that he made $40,000 in 2006. And according to the Tax Policy Center's analysis, 93.5 percent of those making between $40,000 and $50,000 a year would see a tax cut under Obama's plan, averaging $1,124 for the year in 2012."
a recent version of obmama's tax plan calls for tax increases after 603K income. (of course, that probably includes repeal of the bush tax cuts.) so, joe has a LONG way to go (as do most of us, as far as i know) to see a significant increase. but of course, that was a few weeks ago, before the socialist bailout. now whoever wins can COUNT on raising taxes. sorry, joe!
