Hi,

Why am I not surprised that the New York Times would start this crap? I find the timing of their article suspicious, and the content unbelievable. Whether you like John McCain or not, he didn't deserve this type of smear.

I agree. The press is reprehensibe with some of their reporting.

That being said, where there's smoke there's usually fire.

If I were John McCain I would totally admit to everything the NYT said. That would squelch any and all talk about being too old for the office. I'd vote for him.

Quite frankly, it should have no bearing on his ability to be President. I felt the same way with the Clinton/Lewinsy thing. Obviously, Clinton was guilty and maybe McCain is too...you know what!?! I really don't care. I mean, I wouldn't want to be his wife and if it were my husband, he'd likely be packing his bags. Yes, if he had an affair, it certainly says something about him but I don't think it rules out his ability to be a decisive leader. That said, I'm still voting for Obama. Big Grin

From what I understand, McCain had an affair with the woman who is now his wife. Don't care. Would he be a good leader? That I care about.

Who someone sleeps with has no bearing on whether or not they can be an effective leader. Can we move on to the issues now?

I will say, however, that it's funny to see the same people willing to crucify someone for their sexual behavior are now mad that a newspaper would report about someone else's extramarital affairs. Oh, that's right, it wasn't the act that made people mad, it was the fact that he lied about it. Let's see if the same standard applies to everyone equally.

What I will never understand though, is why these egomaniacs run for political office, the highest political office, when they know they have these potential skeletons? I understand that no one is without fault, but really, are these people the best we can get?

Or are those who live on the straight-and-narrow smart enough not to run?

These stories, which surface every election, baffle me. (See, Jack Ryan, Hart, Clinton, Craig, etc.)

However, count me as someone who thinks that a man/woman cheating on his/her wife/husband, especially while in the public eye, does not deserve my vote to lead. If they cannot exhibit the appropriate loyalty and self-control to those who are supposedly the closest to them, where does that leave the rest of us?

I have cheated on my wife countless times. Keep this to yourselves as she has no idea. But I must say that given the opportunity, I would hire me...or vote for me...in a second.

Reminds me of one of my favorite exchanges from Seinfeld:

George is scoffing shrimp at a meeting.

Reilly: The ocean just called, they are running out of shrimp.
George: The jerk store just called, they're running out of you.
Reilly: That shouldn't be a problem since you are there all time best seller.
George: I slept with your wife!
??: His wife is dead!

OK, start naming your source for the story. I will start with 3 choices:

Rush Limbaugh
Mike Huckabee
Mike Bloomberg

Is your name on that list or is it just dangling on the end there?

I could be on the list. Did this event happen 8 years ago before the South Carolina primary? If so, it's Karl Rove

So, if the right torpedoes McCain, does Huckabee have enough delegates to get the nomination? From what I understand, mathematically, McCain is it for the Republicans. I don't get the end game in this plan. I'm not disagreeing with you, RK. The right went after McCain in 2000 with the "black baby" rumor. I wouldn't put anything past Karl Rove, but what does it accomplish?

Based on innuendo and circumstance, as put forth in the article, I take it that you are completely sold that McCain had an affair. The article doesn't charge that he had one, doesn't give any facts to support it's very own story, yet you're so sure? This is a perfect example of how the press unjustifiably affects public opinion. I feel very sorry for your spouse.

This, I agree with.

As I already stated, he had an affair with the woman who is currently his wife. So, regardless of whether he was intimate with the lobbyist in question, he is an adulterer. Does that make him unable to lead our country?

I'm not sure of what any politician does in their private life really, which makes it even easier for me to say that it has no bearing on whether or not they'd get my vote.

To be honest, I'm not that crazy about McCain. I just don't like the unfounded article and the potential harm it could do. I wouldn't like it if were to happen to Obama either.

My predictions for choice of running mates:

Obama will choose Wesley Clark

McCain will choose Joe Lieberman.

Well little way, I tend to agree with you and b-boy, but one must remember that the Prez is held to a higher standard and should be. As a leading example of our great country, I personally, don't want a womanizer, drunkard, gambler, or coward as our commander in chief. Nor do I want a bible quoting prez pressing his religous thoughts on everyone else. Religion and politics do not mix and that's my beef with the extreme right. ON the other hand, the liberal stances of the far left are equally distasteful. Personally, I think our founding fathers were sheer geniuses. Messing with the right to bear arms is fraught with risk and serious ramifications in times of crisis which this country really hasn't seen, even during the great depression. In 20-30 years, the socio-economic as well as racial makeup of this country will be very different as compared to today. Maybe a situation that is not too popular to discuss but is real nevertheless. I pray this country doesn't turn into a free for all at this juncture in our history.

Hot off the press:

Nader will appear on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. My guess is he will announce that he's taking another shot. This may screw up my running mate predictions.
