Ok, not the best comparison but makes the point. In the extremely liberal world, war is more immoral than taking your clothes off for people and getting paid to do it. It's their paradigm - glad it's not mine - but they, as a community have a right to it.

Amy: my buddy's wife was in Berkley having lunch at an outdoor cafe. The Berkley neighborhood is still full of 60's era hippies, now late 50's/60's year old. There is a sect called "the naked people" and they dance nude in the streets. They completely ruined her meal with such antics. Cops don't do anything about it. Guess they took too much acid in their time and it's effect I guess can be clearly seen.
Most are on the public till. If our tax dollars are used to support them, I guess it's only fair that they support my/our security. That's my point.
And yes, I understood what you meant on your comparison. Just having some fun with you!
I gotcha now. I have not been to Berkley - now I really want to go .
My personal philosophy is that being too extremely immersed in any one issue, left or right, is a problem. I believe in moderation in all things. The military most definitely has it's purpose but believing so firmly that the military is always right, leads us down a dangerous path. Believing that the military is wrong because it may lead to war, leads us down a dangerous path as well.
Oh well, I guess I won't be moving to Berkley anytime soon.

Oh, Amy. Dear, sweet, loving Amy. Moderation doesn't make for good headlines or rallying cries. We're all supposed to be furious at each other. We're not supposed to see the other side of any issue. Forget the middle. It's too, what's the word I'm looking for, middley.
One of the things that I love about The Daily Show is their ability to skewer everyone and still make it funny. And really what it all boils down to is humor. I think the moderation comes from being able to see the humor in most situations. My idea is it can't be that bad if I'm laughing about it.
Lighten up, people. It's all just temporary anyway.

So you're saying that whatever a community wants it should be able to decide. So if 51% of the people decide they don't want something that should be the only deciding factor. So, if a majority of the people said no blacks or jews that would be ok. I mean if you are allowed to discriminate against one group than why not against everyone.
Berkeley is a pretty affluent, liberal town. So they seem to be saying no war for us let the poor do the fighting and dying for us. The people in Berkeley don't so much seem opposed to war as just their involvement in it.
Little... trust me, I LOVE Jon Stewart AND Coulbert. Laughing is essential to a good quality of life (and a great coping skill). But it is the extreme that makes the news. Too bad. Can you imagine a world where the news is that we get along and manage our differences in civilized ways??? Now THAT would be amazing.
Taxpayer, I think if a community decides they don't want certain kinds of businesses, they have a right to set some rules. Likewise, if a community doesn't want vagrancy or panhandling, they have a right to set rules (if the police choose not to enforce them, that's a whole different issue, but I digress). Obviously, I am NOT suggesting that a community DISCRIMINATE against anyone - having guidelines for decent behavior is not discrimination against any particular group. C'mon Taxpayer, don't be so ridiculous!

But this is not an issue of say a business or a group that will disrupt or damage the community. So it is a form of discrimination maybe not on what would normally consider discrimination but discriminatory still . If affluent communities like Berkley successfully keep Military recruiters out of their town then the burden of defending your country will fall disproportionately on the poor .
Again who decides and based on what. A business caters to a certain group should the community have the right to keep them out.
I really don't understand the problem everyone around here has with PADS and the churches opening their doors to them. I don't recall any of these people ever getting involved in a crime . Same thing with the homeless guy in front of Starbucks whats the big deal he seems to leave everyone alone. And since he doesn't break any laws why get so worked up over it.
I hear what your saying taxpayer. However, a person I know had the unfortunate experience of witnessing one of the homeless urinating on his neighbors bush's while awaiting the PADS center to open. Can't say too many people would appreciate this after investing in a 600 K home. And it's happened more than once. My question is, how would a bleeding heart liberal handle this??
