Caught a brief article about this in the Daily Herald yesterday.

The Herald linked to this page. The "Compensation and Benefits" information on this page links to a PDF that is kind of stunning in its "transparency".

Like, it shows all salaries, benefits and pension contributions for employees of Hoffman Estates. They have almost 100 firemen with a population of about 52K.

Wowser!!

Is this the start of a trend, where all towns, cities and villages start freely showing what salaries and perks tax dollars are buying?

Boy, I hope so.

Edit: If the text is too small when you open the PDF, just enlarge it by clicking on the text size pane in the toolbar. 100% should work for most people.

I remember communities doing this in tiny print along with the budget details in newspapers in the 80's to comply with some type of public disclosure. But then it stopped.
