PRESS RELEASE
for additional info: Genell Scheurell @(630)545-2479 or @ Gscheurell@wowway.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 28, 2007 Citizens Group Working to Get Out the Vote! The Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation are urging residents to get out and vote for members of the Village of Glen Ellyn Board of Trustees. In an effort to promote a large turnout at this year’s elections on Tuesday, April 17th, the Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation are taking a variety of actions to remind residents to vote, including inviting the Trustee candidates to attend their regularly scheduled monthly meeting in April. This will be an opportunity for members and any interested residents to "meet and greet" the four candidates running for the three open seats on Glen Ellyn's Village Board. The Civic Betterment Party candidates, Todd Buckton, Jim Comerford, Michelle Thorsell and an independent candidate, Pete Ladesic will be available to answer questions. Date: Thursday, April 5th Place: Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, 1/2 block north of Roosevelt Rd on the east side of Park Blvd. This meeting will be held in the larger basement meeting room and light refreshments will be served. Time: 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The candidates will talk briefly about their platform and then attendees will have a chance to ask them questions in an informal setting. Among issues of concern to the group are candidates’ views on preserving the character of Village neighborhoods and the downtown, the creation of historic districts and conservation areas, the landmarking of historic structures, and the remediation of the teardown problem affecting Glen Ellyn. "We feel it is important to provide an opportunity for our members and candidates for public office to meet," said Chris Wilson, President of the Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation. "We hope to have a good turnout and an informative meeting so our members will have a better idea of where the candidates stand," Wilson said. "It will also be a chance for the candidates to gain a better understanding of concerns of Village residents." Elections for Village office are to be held on April 17th with early voting from March 14th through April 12th at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane Street. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm; Thursday 8:30 am - 7:00 pm; Saturday 9:00 am to Noon. The Trustees serve for a single term of 4 years. |

I was reading over some of the campaign literature for the village trustee race and thought it was interesting that all three of the CBP candidates noted they had leadership roles in the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn.
So I guess the motto should really be "Three for all of GE (and the UCC)". |

They have all been very involved at one time or another. But I wouldn't call them all closely connected. It's a decent-sized church. I know Michelle and Jim but not Todd (though I know Clam does) and they are really great people. My endorsement may or may not mean much but they get my endorsement nonetheless.

Going out on a limb there Amy? What part of "no" don't you understand? |

Well, if people don't have a very high opinion of me, then my opinion may not matter at all. But I think Michelle, Todd, and Jim will do a great job! Is that better Fish?

Does the term Kiss of Death come to mind. |

Amy, Sorry I don't get your endorsement but I respect your opinion. You should ask more people about me before you cast your vote. Ted, Thank you for all of your tireless hours devoted to this site. To all the rest of you thought provoking GEBBr's, you too Clam. You have all kept me awake many a late night with your quick wits and humor and it is great that you are passionate about so many things in this town, good or bad. If I am elected two weeks from now I will come calling for more of that creative input. If not I will be back in two years (please don't make me do that). Many of you have suggested some very odd, but also some very clever solutions to issues that face our town and I hope you will be open to exploring the viability of some of those. I ask for your support for my Village of Glen Ellyn Trustee Campaign. If you would like more information about me please visit my campaign website at WWW.VOTELADESIC.COM Sincerely, Pete |

Good luck, Pete
You've been the most open candidate out there. Hate to say that as I know one very well and think he would do an awesome job for the village. But nobody deemed it necessary to even pop their heads in here which is unfortunate given that this site is a valuable, and perhaps the lone tool for communication in this town. It is a proven fact that the press reads it, the village government reads it, the CBP reads it, the school boards read it and, most importantly, the average person on Forest Avenue reads it. It was good of you to answer the concerns and criticisms you read in an open manner. I wish you luck. Now...can you explain to me what the deal is with the house on Bryant about 4 doors north of Hillside? Looks to me like the contractor may have had the blueprints upside down and turned that garage the wrong direction. |

I know the Village has an issue with big homes with front facing garages but I don't think that was the solution they had in mind.

Hey Pete! Glad to see you around the boards. I was reading the Sun yesterday and saw that it did not contain your answers to their little poll. Any reason for that? (I admit, the questions were less than earth-shattering, but given the dearth of info out there I was curious why you would pass up the chance at a little free pub.)
Full disclosure, I initially was opposed to your candidacy simply because I have had several experiences where I was troubled by what I consider GE's incompetent/ineffective regulation of builders. I still feel that builders are not sufficiently regulated and existing homeowners are not sufficiently protected. But I'm at the point where I feel the insiders who run this town have gotten things so screwed up through their traditional way of doing things, that I'd vote for ANYONE who was not a part of the establishment, and AGAINST anyone who received the establishment endorsement. |

The GE News sent a questionnaire postmarked 3/22 and wanted it back 3/29 and it just so happened that I was out of the country on spring break with my family. No return phone calls from them yet.
Oh well. Thanks for your support. Even though not popular with some of my counterparts I am also in favor of more strict guidelines for not only residential but comercial builders as well. I promise that I won't tear your house down should I win. Unless that is, that you wanted to sell it, I had a family wanting to move back to Glen Ellyn that wanted to buy it and have the means to pay for it. That same family then can fight to find a parking spot in town and try to find a store to spend some of there hard earned dollars in. Funny how that works. Or doesn't. Pete |

I can confirm the quick turn that the GE News wanted on their questionnaire. When I opened the letter, I did a double take when I saw the due date. I apologize, Pete. Had I known you were out of town, I'd have tried to get a hold of you. Steve Vondrak almost missed the deadline, as he was out of town last week too. Pete, I'd suggest putting answers to the questions on your website or here. I did that on my site anyway, because they were only able to print about 10% of my reponses. Good luck, Pete. And as a reminder to all. You only need to vote for the people you want to, you do not need to "Vote for three" like the ballot says. Bob Solak |

New News I recived a letter last week from the Glen Ellyn News apologizing for the screw up of sending the candidate questions out while people were on spring break. They did ask me to send them in and are posting them on thier website. I appreciated the fact that they addressed what happened and tried to do what they could to fix it although too late to publish in the paper. Here were my responses. Remember to VOTE this tuesday. Polls open 6am to 7pm. Pete Peter Ladesic 871 Smith Street Glen Ellyn, Il. 60137 Home 630.469.6490 Candidate seeking election to Village of Glen Ellyn Trustee 45 years old Married with three children, Mary age 11, Hannah age 11, Jonah age 9 Occupation Homebuilder Experience 40 year resident 20 year veteran of the Glen Ellyn Police Reserves Former Village Plan reviewer and Building inspector Active in Village government, School District 41, and Park District committees Active in many Community Service organizations Top three issues Revitalizing our local business economy Providing adequate parking to serve our shoppers, shopkeepers, commuters and students Controlling costs associated with rebuilding our aging infrastructure ie: streets, sewers, water and electrical distribution systems What makes me the best candidate for this position? I have a history of community service unmatched by any of my opponents I have a desire to lead our village into the future I possess the professional and practical experience necessary to effect much needed change What can the village do to help recruit businesses to Glen Ellyn and reduce the vacancy rate? Identify businesses which residents would patronize and who would be a good fit and draw for our town Seek out these businesses, ask what they would look for in selecting towns to do business in and match the voiced needs of our residents with the needs of those retailers As a whole, adopt a more welcome environment for new business How do you intend to help the Village Board maintain its reputation for fiscal responsibility? In general our existing and former village administrations have done an excellent job at keeping our village budget in check. However the current administration has stated that we may have thinned back on village staff a little too much resulting in decreased services to our residents. While seeking more cost effective ways to reduce expenses and more creative ways to generate revenue we will also have to look at improving village services to residents. |
