Glad to see some "green" party candidates on the ballot. That should make sure the dems have a tough time winning any election (green, blue and liberal go together and will split votes). Maybe they will move on to more liberal towns rather than trying to infect DuPage County.
Sure this statement will tick of liberals (I don't mind), but when I chose to move here 10 years ago, it was partly because this was the most conservative county in the IL. I want it to stay that way.
Too late. Just look at Fish's block. As Dem as it gets. Like a blue stake right thru the ruby red heart of the RNC...smack dab in the center of the coveted Laked Ellyn area.
Henry Hyde must be spinning in his grave.

Jimbo, I am with you. Based on the number of DUckworth signs around here I would think I am in the heart of commie territory , I meant the Northwest side of Chicaga.

Oh. Sorry. I guess I was just looking ahead.
BTW, did anyone else receive this small cardboard box in the mail today from the National Republican Congressional Committee called the "Welcome to America Kit!"? The kit, aimed at illegal aliens...apparently the NRCC mistakenly thought that I and members of my family were illegal aliens (given the French surname...I might be able to see their mistake), included three coupons, one reward for breaking the law, one to allow my family and I to collect social security benefits, and one to allow us Medicare and Medicaid benefits. Being of French heriatge and lilly white I kind of have the feeling that maybe I was sent this by mistake. I know that the NRCC was probably welcoming those dirty Mexicans and Dominicans into the country. Nonetheless, it is nice of them to offer up these coupons. Had pretty pictures of the evil Tammy Duckworth on them.
It really is a shame that we have come to this. Both Dems and Reps foisting absolutely childish and misleading information about one another thru the airwaves and mailboxes of unsuspecting Frogs such as myself. If there was one piece of literature that has swayed my vote this election season, it was this little cardboard box. While all the while I was leaning towards Peter Roskam (even though I am desperate to be Fish's friend and vote like his neighborhood and family will), regardless of how intolerant and right-wing extremme he is, this box sent me to the left. I will vote for Tammy Duckworth regardless of my feelings towards her ability. I remember when I first got into my business 20+ years ago...I had no clue what I was doing. JUST LOOK AT ME NOW!!
How sad for the RNC that they have yet to figure out that DuPage county is slowly but surely drifting to the center. How sad that they seemingly have the inability to find a candidate that was just a little softer around the edges and could identify with the changing face of the community. The man in the White House has had a disasterous effect on the Republican party. It amazes me that they don't try to distance themselves from him a little more. Come the morning of November 8th I am certain that Washington will have a new look to it. I'll be one who votes for that new face...all over a misdirected cardboard box.

The typical democratic voter, easily swayed by some stupid little box. I don't like much of the material used by either side, but a man needs to vote by his principals and values (tax policy, illegal immigration, entitlement programs, national defense, etc.)not their changing "feelings or "emotions". What a candidate stands for is not changed by how their election team gets out their message. If people voted for those that run a "nice" campaign, voters would all stay home as there is no such thing.
I'm having no problem with that. You on a guilt trip or what. Keep thinking like a true Republican and I'm sure you will be rewarded in heaven or Denny's next picnic.
I think you make a good point, Clam (of course you do) ... we are becoming more moderate and I do believe that is a very good thing. I could vote on either side of the ballot as long as they are centerist in their thinking. Duckworth will get my vote. I am sure Mr. Roskam is a nice guy and I would enjoy having a conversation with him. But his views are far too right for me. And I wish they'd stop calling - very, very annoying - especially when they say, "The LIBERAL, Tammy Duckworth..." like liberal is a dirty word or like it even really sticks in this case.
I'm still torn on a few other races. Blagojovich does not make me happy but I am not so sure that Topinka would do any better...I can't believe there aren't better candidates out there.

Did you really choose Glen Ellyn because it was conservative in your eyes? I've never heard that before. At least not heard of anyone verbalizing it...perhaps we all think that way and internalize. I guess it's kind of the same reason why chose not to buy a house in Highland Park. Given that we were not Jews and HP is predominantly Jewish...we figured we would have little in common with the community. And I have never considered myself to be a Democrat. Just a middle of the road guy that voted for George Sr. but not Jr. I am so conflicted. Regardless of my past issues, you must feel kinda boned at this point. But Jimbo...you continue to have a fabulous name. I love that about you. Always will.

You're a friend of Fish. He called me a few moments ago, told me you enjoyed scotch, and invited us to his home Friday night at 8 so that we might discuss this in person. See you then.

I agree with you on the wording of the ballot, what a total sham by the PD. Nothing about 7M to be used for the Ackerman sportsplex. Just an innocuous statement about preserving some park land . This is just like D41 say one thing and then do another. If the PD can't be totally 100% honest I say they should be told no.
As for us becoming more centrist. I would'nt go patting yourselves on the back just yet. First the Republican party in Illinois and in DuPage was never that far right. If you look at it's leaders over the years Michaels, Ryan, Thompson,Hyde,Edgar,Percy etc they where for the most part middle of the road type people. They where able to be successful state wide as a counter to the Democratic Machine in Chicago or when the Dems every so often went left in their choices.
The problem I have with Ms. Duckworth, Is that I don't believe she will be a good representative for this district. I don't believe she knows anything about this area except for what her pollsters and handlers have told her. I do believe that she is a total creation of the Democratic Party especially the people in Cook County. In the end she would end up representing them and not us.
As for name calling and negativity sorry that has a long history in American Politics going all the way back to Adams/Jefferson just the way it is I guess.
"In the end she would end up representing them and not us."
I think this is a short-sighted argument for a couple of reasons. First, it assumes that there is a them and an us. To the extent that Duckworth is in fact a "creation" of Rahm Emanuel and Richard Daley, she is a moderate democrat: moderately pro-business and socially liberal (though what passes for liberal these days is really moderate). Emanuel is a Clintonista from way back, also moderately pro-business and socially moderate, and Daley, while pro-business, can hardly be described as socially liberal. The Supreme Court strikes down his anti-loitering and surveillance schemes on an almost yearly basis. Second, if Duckworth wants to survive more than one term then she will be Melissa Bean with a first-hand focus on the Iraq debacle; Bean is a moderate democrat and likely on her way to a second term. For that reason one could reasonably argue that Duckworth more accurately represents this area than Roskam. I have to believe that a minority of 6th district resident really don't care about NRA issues, or barring abortions for women who have been raped.
What I really love about Duckworth though is that the nature of her military service (a Blackhawk f'ing helicopter pilot) and the severity of her injuries forces all of us Standard Suburban Guys and Women to acknowledge the fact that while we are toiling at largely meaningless jobs in finance, law, whatever, agonizing over whether to buy a plasma or LCD television, and daydreaming about their next moderately expensive foreign car, people like Duckworth are out there doing real stuff, with real consequences. While Roskam was riding his bicycle to San Diego (wheeeeee!) and teaching high school in Key West, Duckworth was having her legs blown off in war. She's just more of a man than Roskam in every non-biological way, and far more personally aggressive. Roskam is so small in stature (physically, and otherwise), and narrow in scope, that he may as well be her little brother. He's a small man for small times and Duckworth a big man for big times. I am giving her a chance, it's only two years. Let Roskam move to a district where he can win.
I won't vote for Duckworth, either. Although I say I will over and over and over, I'll most likely abstain from voting for that race as well as Governor. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Where did that Forest Preserve District ref come from?
EDIT- that was until I read HB's post...and now I hate PR even more. Good post, HB. Would like someone, anyone, to right a pro-Raskam post that makes as much sense. Of course, that will do nothing other to confuse me even more.
