U.S. Senate hopeful tells voters he was gone from the ailing institution by late 2005 — but he told the IRS something else Did Giannoulias work at the bank in 2006? Shake the Magic 8 ball.... I'm just curious as to what difference it makes when he left the instition (to the voters, anyway).... Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele

Boston Blackie’s closing some locations From the article- "The restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy protection in December. In March, Chris Giannis and Andy Bakopoulos, the father and son who operated the restaurants, were charged with defrauding two banks out of almost $1.9 million in a check-cashing scheme. Authorities said they arrested the father March 11 on the U.S. border as he was trying to enter Canada. The allegations caused a new round of political embarrassment for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate and state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, whose family owns Broadway Bank and has long known the father and son. The Blackie’s operators are accused of writing bad checks from their accounts at Broadway to other banks as part of their alleged scheme. Longtime Blackie’s operator Nick Giannis gave Giannoulias more than $114,000 in campaign contributions for his treasurer and Senate campaigns. " "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Still baffling how Hoffman lost to Alexi. Maybe it was the hair. "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." William James

First Alex G. When he first ran made a big deal of his banking/business experience. Then when things went south he was suddenly out of the loop. Now it turns that he was still working there as late as 2006. Thats why it matters.

Actually, I think it matters for tax purposes. If he wasn't working, as he said, he wasn't entitled to certain write-offs. "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." William James

Fan I wouldn't necessarily say dumb, but I'm glad you're not buying into the media-hyped political bs. Taxpayer, so he was working there in '06....and got $25,000 or so tax benefits for it....wth does that have to do with his ability to handle his political position? RMK, I know what you mean. I didn't know a whole lot about the story when I first posted that, but regardless....wouldn't that be between him and the IRS? As I understand it, when he'd previously "said" he wasn't working there anymore in '05, that wasn't exactly what he said. It was miscontrued by the media and such. While perhaps a bit more relevant, this is getting just as bad as the Clinton/Lewinski "scandal".... Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele

*shrugs* Everyone's entitled to his or her own opinion, I suppose.... Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele

Simple question-Would you want this man handling your retirement portfolio? I think he's already answered the question about handling your kid's college fund. "Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. A farmer doesn't bother telling a pig his breath smells like s***."

Simple answer, I wouldn't want ANY politician handling my retirement portfolio. I don't understand why everyone always seems so shocked when it comes out that a politician has (or may have) done something bad. They're people AND they're politicians....negative things are going to happen. They're not pure, they're not perfect, and they have flaws. Why do we expect perfection out of others when it's something that clearly none of us has or could ever have? hmmm who do you think manages the various pension funds for all the State employees. Or in Illinois case I guess the term would be mis-manages. In this case it is relevant only because Alex G. made such a deal about his banking experience while running for office last time. Now the bank has gone under, taxpayer are on the hook for millions of dollars. And somehow the rest of his family made out pretty well.

You said it right there, Taxpayer....the rest of his family. Were any of the voters working for the bank when that whole thing happened? Did any of them have an inside track on what REALLY happened?? No, everything has been (and still is) speculation, which is not very difficult to manipulate....particularly for a politician. I'm aware that the pension funds for state employees are managed by politicians....perhaps this is part of the reason that I'd never be a state employee....but, it's not my pension fund, I'm managing that myself....and I'd like to point out that it's politicianS managing these things, not any one specific politician. The problem is much deeper than one individual and just the same, there is not one individual who can fix said problem either. Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements....even if it leads nowhere - Adele
