As I walked out of my front door on Saturday to get to work on some pressing vehicle issues, I was approached by a lady passing out campaign literature door to door. She identified herself as working for the Democratic Party and handed me three postcard/doorhanger type printings. One was a listing of the three Dem candidates for Milton Twp. Makes sense. Another was for a slate of Glen Ellyn Park District candidates and the other was for a slate of COD trustee candidates. I wasn't aware that these slates were running as Democrats? I thought those elections were "non-partisan". Am I mistaken? Frankly, it was a bit of a turn off - particularly the PD race. I guess for COD, it's a county-wide office and there'd be a benefit, at least from the campaigners point of view, of getting a bunch of foot soldiers on your side. But the PD race? Isn't Mayberry above that?

I found out that the Dems in my 'hood are passing out Creech Park District lit & their Township candidate info. Great, the only two fiscally responsible taxing bodies in the county & the Dems want to Blago that for us as well. If these 3 get on the Board I wonder how long it would take for the Park District to lose their S & P AA Bond Rating? At the LWV Candidates Forum Sunday Creech supported turning all of the PD soccer fields to sand based athletic turf instead of native soil. This is IN SPITE of the fact that according to a University of Michigan study stating that this would cost approx. $600,000 a field to renovate. The PD has approx. 30 fields. I don't know about you but I don't think we can afford Creech's kind of thinking. Of course her daddy is a specialist in this field and I wonder what type of contracts she would like to push to see awarded if elected... Julia Nephew was just as awful. She stumbled, stuttered & looked like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming vehicle when asked the very tricking, difficult & disarming question: What is your vision & what do you want to accomplish as a Commissioner. BTW she NEVER would answer the question. Having known Jay Kinzler for awhile, he has lost my respect associating with these two. Creech & Co have shown from their websites and campaign literature that she only cares about one thing & that is the park across the street from her house. All Ackerman All the Time should be their campaign slogan. It is a brave new world out there. I love the diversity of the parks we have in Glen Ellyn. Even the Village Parks like Panfish & Lambert Lake are hidden treasures. I am saddened & disgusted that they brought their single issue Chicago style negative campaigning out here to my lovely village.

The GE Republican guy (nice enough chap) was walking brochures down my block...along with his dog...and the Creech/Kinzler/Nephew pamphlet was stuck in the packet. Seems they both pushing for them. Not certain what that means.

Jombl, it was the Creech/Kinzler/Nephew slate. The COD one was the Savage/Svoboda(sp?)/Wentdorf(sp?)/other-one-I-can't-remember slate

My Republican Committeeman (well actually it is a woman) dropped off an envelope with literature & a letter over the weekend. Thank goodness she has the good sense to hand out the flier for Aubrey, Jourdan, Schoen & Taylor. I did find a letter in her packet with an email & phone number so I called to ask her about her endorsements. She told me that since these are non-partisan elections with the exception of the Township race, they are free to endorse - or not endorse any of the candidates they choose. I have to say, I was glad to see John Galt's post this AM. I find the opposition to be very negative. Besides that...there are so may more parks in Glen Ellyn other than Ackerman. Seriously, how single issue can a campaign get???
