Did you catch this sentence in the Herald article?

quote:
Add to that a sharp decrease in consumption and the village is faced with a situation that forces it to pull $790,000 out of reserves to balance the water fund, even after the increase.

How big of a fall off in consumption has there been? And, even with the higher rate 79% of a million smackers is still needed?

Yikes? What if consumption CONTINUES to fall?

In a darkly humorous vein, I was reading a bunch of questions that the DuPage Water Commissioners had with respect to line items in the DPWC's 2010 budget [since approved]. Liz Chaplin, Alan Poole [no longer a commissioner], Frank Saverino and Jim Zay were the primary question-askers.

Too lazy to go back and look it up but they pretty much ALL asked why so much money was being spent for "conservation programs". They seemed to think that towns, villages, schools etc. were doing a MUCH better job of educating the public with regard to conserving water.

The amount of money wasn't even that large - $150K maybe? - but still, now that there are "sharp declines in [water] consumption" in Glen Ellyn [and no doubt in EVERY town that gets the Lake Michigan water from the DPWC], perhaps they might want to ease-off those "conservation programs"?! Smile

How about a "Water Your Lawn to Excess Day"?

I see GEM posted a comment on that website:

"I'm going to start a business in downtown Glenn Ellyn. It will be called:

Ellen and Glenn"s Waterbottle and Hotdog Stand.

I can undercut the faucet price and make a fortune."

It's the spending, Stupid!
