I find this rather insulting and I would NEVER condone such behavior. How could you?

Just kidding. Smile

Amy, have you ever seen the movie "Cabaret"?

Money does make the world go around.

Who's better at distribution of it the Gov't or its people?

Welcome to nationalized medicine.
Oh, they want "guaranteed issue" medical coverage. Why not go uninsured and save the premium dollars until you really need it and then go out and buy health insurance just in time to pay the claim? Great system.

I really don't think universal healthcare will ever happen. It's been pretty much a failure everywhere. Long waiting lists and wait times to see specialists, slow innovation, high taxes and shortages of doctors. Oh yeah, give me some of that! The entrenched interests are against it -- American Medical Association, Big Pharma Companies (most of which are here in Chicago, Baxter, Abbott, Takeda), plus the insurance companies would fight it too. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. If anything, IMO, with Obama or Hillary, I see an expansion of Medicare to cover the unemployed. Hillary and Obama know universal healthcare will never work; failed for Hillary in 1993-94. They throw it out there just to appeal to their base, makes 'em drool.

I hate to ruin your thread Amy, but McCain will win this election big. My prediction 60-40.

Buggy,

You're too nice, I know you can do better than that. I'll see if I can find any good ones for you, although Fan's will be hard to beat.

I can't contain myself on this one; Guess what! You are already paying for the uninsured. That's why an asprin costs you $20. Something must be done becuase if it isn't, the system is going to implode and we are going to be much more screwed than having to wait in line to see a specialist. My husband could share a long, long, long, long, long list of reasons why national healthcare/insurance has to happen.

If he doesn't deliver service with a smile and give the patient exactly what he/she wants, he gets a poor review (because hospitals ask all patients to complete satisfaction surveys now).

If he refuses to write a Rx for narcotic pain killers, because the patient's regular doctor is, "Out of the country for two months and my pain is real bad Doc." He gets a poor review.

If the triage nurse doesn't bring a patient with chest pain back to a room claiming "There's no room to put them in" and the doctor never knew the patient was in the waiting room with chest pain but the patient has a heart attack in the waiting room, guess who's getting sued!

If the person does not have insurance, they will come to the ER for a sore throat, a sore back (that's been sore for months - but it's an emergency now), or any other ailment that they don't want to pay $59 at the Walgreen's Clinic to have treated, and guess what, they get medical attention, clog up the ER, and cause you and I to pay more. (But the patient smokes 2 packs a day, wears expensive Nike tennis shoes, NFL jerseys, and drives a gas gussling SUV...but they can't afford to pay for the doctor.)

The patient who doesn't have any money but needs to go to the doctor will call 9-1-1 to get a ride to the ER. Then, they'll ask for a cab voucher for the ride home.

A patient who does not speak English shows up in the ER for a basic medical problem but expects the hospital to provide an interpreter. (There are people who don't speak English who bring someone with them that can serve as their interpreter.)

Patients give fake names and addresses all the time (no id is required to check in via the ER) and the hospital loses out. Those of us who pay or have insurance end up paying instead.

I could go on and I hear several of these stories after EVERY shift.

Amy Amy Amy. . . . These are some very good examples! I really do mean it! If you would like to see some more check out some Government run programs. . .Like Social Security . . .food stamps. . . and one of my all time favorites. . . .Public Housing! I think I'm better off paying $20.00 for an aspirin at Central DuPage than I would be buying a $5000.00 toilet seat at the Pentigon Smile

I am NOT suggesting that the government take over the entire healthcare system. I am suggesting that the government have some form of healthcare COVERAGE. Big difference. And if you listen to the Democratic candidates, they are not suggesting a government run healthcare system either...just healtcare coverage.
