While I believe that Governor Palin just shot herself in the foot politically. I was always surprised at the animosity that was generated toward her, and her family. I don't ever recall a Politicians children being subject to such personal attacks before.

Part of that was political when McCain announced her as his VP candidate he took an immediate jump in the polls so that was going to generate a lot of attacks. And when McCain lost the McCain people unquoted of course laid the blame for their defeat at her. Which is strange because very few people vote for the VP.

Do I think that Governor Palin is qualified to be President, probably not, but I don't think Biden would be a good one either.

I think there were sixteen separate ethics investigations of Governor Palin. Everyone but one was resolved. As for spending taxpayer money. Nancy Pelosi, though worth in excess of 10M had no trouble billing taxpayer 400.00 a night to stay in a hotel in Rome for a week.

The same day that Governor Palin resigned, the Labor Department announced that another 450K jobs were lost last month. Guess which story the op-ed and headline writers at the NYT thought was worth the most ink.

Another story that the NYT and its op-ed writers will ignore is that yesterday two Chinese companies settled
in Yuan an export-import sale. That was the first time in history that has happened. The Chinese have taken their first baby step toward making the Yuan a global currency. They have a long way to go. But they have grown tired of funding our deficits. And see that it will only grow in size . If the Yuan does join the dollar then you can see a lot of the high paying finance jobs leave the U.S. and go to China. The U.S. may over time lose its privileged status as the worlds financial center.

We could be like Great Britain after WWII slowly losing our economic and political status.

We're not going to lose it, It is being given away.

The thinking now is that we may need another Stimulus package. Hey the first one worked so well, why not. And I mean whats another trillion dollars or so.

I just spoke to my coworker who is in Italy....$900 per night. No kidding. You can hardly stay in Chicago for $400 a night these days. Our corp rate at The Peninsula is close to that...around $350.

The Euro hovering around 140 ain't doing anyone any favors, either.

So...although I think Nancy is a putz (and I find Sarah equally as repulsive)....$400 a night in Italy is, and I think we can all agree on this, a relative bargain.

Yes it was a waste. We basically paid for her and her entourage to take a taxpayer subsidized vacation. And no I don't care if it was Newt or Nancy or whoever its still a waste. It shows the mentality of our politicians. Four Hundred dollars why thats such a bargain. We've had guys take two week vacations complete with wives, aides in the Galapagos, so they can study global warming.

It is this kind of mentality that leads to multi trillion dollar deficits.

Oh yeah that jobs report was actually much worse. Not only did unemployment hit a twenty six year mark, hours worked hit a forty year low.

And as for our current economic crisis, it took a good 30-40 years of bad decisions by our elected officials and disinterest and apathy by those who elected them to get where we are today. I think it has remarkably little to do with O’bama’s recovery policies. He just gets to hold the stinky bag. Most statistical measures of family income show stagnation beginning in the 70’s as personal and public debt rose and manufactures started to bail on us. We went from one skilled blue collar wage earner owning a decent house, supporting a family, affording new cars- to a college degree being mandatory for the same standard of living- to two wage earners being necessary- to where we now are heading (not sure anyone knows but the trend would seem to indicate contraction in standard of living unless child labor becomes legal).

But Palin? Since when does presidential material include being poorly educated and inexperienced? I hear political pundits say it doesn’t matter because any one can be president if they meet the constitutional qualifications, but really? We will just settle for charisma and looks? Elect someone who probably couldn’t even understand the advice of their inner circle, assuming someone on the team would be intelligent, experienced, and educated.- To become one of the most powerful individuals on planet earth? Would we pick any other professional this way? Wow.
