The implication that I am apparently ignorant:

"You really need to open your eyes dear girl and explore his past, you may also want to study some US History to find out what it took to make this country GREAT!"

clearly demonstrates my point. You can't simply point out anything factual but you'll take a stab at my intelligence. You ARE angry and bitter. Another piece of evidence: You never offer any kind of thoughtful solutions to the issues with vagrancy downtown - just mean-spirited jabs.

I do know what made this country great and that is unification. Whether post-civil war or during any difficult time, people come together and work to solve problems. You, my dear girl (or boy since I'm still uncertain whether you are male or female) need to open your eyes to your own behavior and words. (I'm just reiterating your form of speech here - I don't really want to call you a girl or boy, implying you are clearly immature, as you did to me.)

I will refrain from replying to your negative and sarcastic rants from this point forward. I greatly appreciate well-placed humor but yours is nearly always at the expense of others.

GEM-What's your deal? At times you can be pretty clever, other times you take unwarranted shots at fellow residents (Clam, Amy & Gus).

How about a little GE love my brother (or sister)?

If he wore that, he would be in violation of the Flag Code...

g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

I do agree it's a little strange he refuses to wear a flag on his lapel (the Flag Code does allow lapel pins on the left near the heart).

How is wearing a $2 flag lapel pin showing respect for ones country? I for one could care less if the right (or left) candidate has a bare lapel, a statue of Buddha on his/her lapel, a peace sign on his/her lapel or a cross on his/her lapel, just as long as they have a good plan to get this country of ours out of the crapper that it is in.

Oh, and BitterBoy, I think Denny Hastert's thighs rubbing together in his suit pants is a much less appealing look, as well as dangerous. I stood next to him after he huffed and puffed his way 30 feet to a podium and I swear I could smell burning polyester in the air.

Go Amy Go! Honestly, GEM, your arguments remind me of (insert menacing drawl here) "if you don't like the way things are done here in America then you can leave". It's BS. The great thing about America, IMHO, is the fact that we CAN disagree with the way things are done here, and the country is a better place because people DO disagree. At the moment, I'm not particularly proud to be an American. If I were a college student backpacking around Europe, I'd likely slap a maple leaf on my backpack so I wouldn't get questioned about the idiotic choices my country has made of late. I appreciate the history of our nation, and have a lot of respect for those leaders who have made positive changes. But blind, unwavering national pride for the sake of national pride? Nope. Keep going pin-less, Barack.

Amy,

Not sure what it is with the persecution complex? I was not inferring you were/are ignorant. That is your interpretation. If I had issue with you be assured I would be more direct. I don't think a history lesson or a lesson in human nature would hurt anyone, people tend to forget. . . thats all no secret meaning. Just because a politician talks a great talk. . . .well you know the rest. (BTW I really don't care for politicians in general)

As far as useful solutions to the vagrancy problems, Well its still a problem and I for one don't want to interfere with the civil rights of the bums. Arguing with you is more than enough fun. I don't think I could deal with Jesse Jackson and friends should I post my solution.

The "dear girl" comment well you just go blame Oprah! She said it first!

Hi,

Amy we are still due for some drinks and light-hearted political discussions. Maybe you will make that bourbon slushee thing again? Smile

In the meantime, I can tell you that my reasons for not supporting Obama have nothing to do with whether or not he wears a pin on his lapel. Or what church he attends. Or his wife, or friends. It is about his voting record, and the fact that he really hasn't done much in the short time he has been in Congress. I was surprised to hear that he had voted "present" many times in his relatively short stint in the senate. This makes me uncomfortable, as I don't know where he stands if he votes "present" and does not take a stand. I guess for me it's his overall lack of tenure and lack of track record. For example, (and this is only one example) he is on the Senate oversight committee for Afghanistan. To date, he has not chaired any meetings on this matter. Yet he has a lot to say about how things have been mishandled. I watched the debate, and when he was asked about this, he admitted that it was probably due to the fact that he has been busy running for President. I'd like to see him have a bit more of an actual track record with accomplishments as Senator before becoming President.

While I will admit that McCain has many faults and points I don't agree with, I think he is the candidate who stands closest in his beliefs to Ronald Reagan. Reagan was (IMO) the last great conservative President. I liked the way Reagan was more moderate on some social issues but strong and conservative on foreign policy and fiscal issues. For me, voting for McCain represents the "least worst" choice. That's sad. But those are the choices we've been given by both parties.

You forgot Fan and Ronkas. I don't think I took a shot at you, but in all fairness I probably will.

I really enjoyed bantering with Fan, but I must confess He is a very smart and precise. I tend to agree with the majority of his postings. Ronkas is pretty smart too, but a bit more serious than Fan.
